Wicked edge grits

So I bought a wicked edge last week and I love it. It gives me a great sharp "toothy" edge. I only have up to 600 grit that came with it. I just ordered the 800/1000 grit stones and I was wondering if this will make a big difference in the edge that I can achieve. What is your guy's expierience going from. 600 grit to 1000 grit?

I find I get a great edge with up to the 600s but the 800/1000s help a lot when you want to get a mirror edge or just a nice hair whittling sharp. They definitely aren't necessary though if you don't want them. I find they work really good for biweekly touchup too.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, do you think I should get the 800/1000 diamonds or just go to the right ceramics above that. The grits are too close to justify getting both

Its all about money....IMO 800/1000 necessary if heading for the mirror finish and they are exellent for maintanence... If you plan on doing lots of knives and money is of no concern then ceramics and strops are cool.

Or strips of sandpaper also give exellent fast results at a fraction of the cost.

I have both the 800/1000 and 1200/1600 ceramics. If I had to pick I would go with the 800/1000, even though they are close it would take much longer to get the same result just going from 600 to 1200. I can get a mirror edge using the 800/1000 then going down to 3.5micron strops.
