Hey guys, I"m looking at 4 different WE models. Looking for input and suggestions from those who have used these systems. The 4 models in my price range are;
WE100
Field and Sport
WE120
WE130
Is it worth buying one over the other? Does one have better or worse features ect? If you have any experience or advice with these please let me know.
Thanks

The 2017 130 vice is immensely better than the 120 clamp. If you're spending the cash on a wicked edge, going lower than the 130 isn't worth it imo. The only problem with it is that it needs the 70$ 1/4 inch clamp if you have knives thicker than 3/16". Definitely worth the price difference over the 120 though.

I much prefer the older clamp over new cam vise. Your not doing bigger thicker blades with new vise.

Besides the jaws. Are there any issues with the 130? The reason for choosing one of these models is I have an opportunity to get one at a discount.

I would recommend the WE120. The older clamp style is much better than the cam lock system. I really like my WE120. I was in your same spot about a year ago and am still happy with my decision to buy the WE120.

Only differences I can see between the 120 & 130 are the jaws the the guide rod length. What would the real benefit of longer guide rods? Sharpen longer knives?

Yes. The 120 also has the micro adjustments and ball-joints on the arms whereas the 100 does not. The 130 has the cam-lock which I do not like because I have thick blades I sharpen on mine.

I strongly prefer the camlock vise of the 130. I would not be interested in a WE without the camlock vise. It is super easy to use, and works flawlessly with FFG Spyderco's. Self centering and nearly instantaneous to clamp. 2017 version with split jaws and adjustable pressure is the way to go.

Most of my knives are folders. I have several benchmades, ZTs, spydercos, one Crk umnumzaan and I just got a Medford 187. I have a few fixed blades. Lt Wright gns, a TOPs bob, a buck 119 and a couple of others. I want to make sure that I get one that will work well with all.

I have the 120 and I would really like to upgrade to the 130 clamp. but for $285, I think I might just save up my pennies and go for the Gen 3 Pro or the Commercial series unit in a six or nine months.
