wicked edge riser ?

I watched a few videos on the wicked Edge Sharpener. Some have a riser that the vice is mounted to. What is the purpose of it ? How high is it ? Is it only for the upgrade kit ? It seems i could make it myself if it's needed. Thanks for any info.
 
Is it on the Pro 2 pack and not on the Pro 1 pack? Ifso then that is the upgraded arms.
 
The riser block allows for angles down to 13 degrees. Some knives are too thin to mount for lower angles. You'll hit the edge of the clamp with the stones.
