I just ordered the Wicked Edge WE66. I know I have a lot to learn but wanted to ask if there is anything else I need to order to get started. Thanks.

I just upgraded from the WE120 and the biggest difference I noticed was that the clamp is a lot lower on the WE66. I was not able to sharpen some of my really small paring knives with the shorter clamp height due to the stones hitting the clamp edge. I ended up buying a riser block and it helped a lot. I still have to be careful with some really thin blades due to the height of the clamp.

I also bought these:
DualCam© Vise Jaws for 1/4" Blades
13" Guide Rods for WE60
Blade Stabilizer

Not cheap after it's all said and done, but the new clamp is really nice for FFG blades and it clamps really securely for other knives. The blade stabilizer is really useful for long blades and the built in depth key is really convenient.

Thanks toker. Very much appreciated.

Just some pointers.

1. Start with a few beater blades. Use a sharpie and mark the edge. Lightly scrub the blade to see if you have the correct clamping position and height. If you don't position the blade correctly, you'll get an uneven bevel. It may take a few dozen blades to break in your stones.
2. Buy a digital angle cube. The angles on the WE are relative. When you clamp the blade, you may need to use a different left and right angle depending on the width and height of the blade.
3. I use a Google spreadsheet to record the height, horizontal position and left/right angles used for each knife. It will save you a lot of time in subsequent sharpenings.

Column E: Left angle
Column F: Right angle
Column G: True angle measured by angle cube
