Wicked Edge wicked frustration

A few things have really been bothering me.

It's a brand new wicked edge. Sharpened about 20 knives with no issues...

Now it seems like the bevel towards the tip is greater/wider/more showing than the rest of the bevel.

Second is I get the angle to what I want it to be ...say 16.5 but when I go to tighten the arm nut to secure it it changes the degree angel sometimes by .5 degrees.

Really frustrating. Is anyone else having these issues and how do I solve them??

To stop the tip from getting wider simply move the knife in the clamp so the tip is closer to the clamp. Get it all set up with sharpie beforehand and your good to go. Some knives just get so thick towards the tip that nothing is going to help this issue though.

Moving the knife horizontally will solve the widening issue...

... if the blade gets thicker toward the tip, bring it in a bit more to compensate.

For your second question, do you have the original or upgraded arms? Not a problem I recall hearing about... you may want to contact WE directly and see what they say.

CBW nailed it... it is more than likely about positioning, however, sometimes it can be the blade geometry itself. If it is the geometry and it naturally gets bigger near the tip, then there is nothing you can do without having it reground.

secondly, I would suspect that

1. your screws have been ground flat and are no longer pointy on the ends
2. your base bar has been turned around backwards so that the divots are on the back side of the WEPS.

Otherwise it should not be moving on you unless the thumb screws loosen up SIGNIFICANTLY

Thanks guys.

Its when I go to tighten the arms that the degree angle changes. Say I have it positioned at 16 degrees using the little degree measurer thing....not the numbers on the bar itself....and after I tighten it its now saying its 16.35 or 15.8 degrees instead of 16.

If you have the basic arms, without the micro-adjust, and want to set an exact angle, then you need to turn the arms or the angle bar around so you're not using the indents. It's not really necessary in most cases... the real key is being consistent. You won't notice a difference between a 16 and 16.3 angle.

- Same experience here. Depending on the blade thickness and height, you may not get the same exact angle on both sides when measuring with an angle cube. I just choose the closest angle rounded up or down to what I want and record my Wicked Edge's angle setting in an Excel document. That way subsequent sharpening use the same angle.

Thank you everyone. The edges are even and I am not being so anal about the degrees on the arms as long as there are close. feeling better about it. Thank You!
