I have had wicked edge a long while now.

I've had great success with the tool, some insanely sharp edges too! I've noticed, however, that when my adjustment arm is set to 20deg on one side, the true angle is closer to 16 or 17deg (using angle cube to measure.). Not a huge problem, with my angle cube I can reset the arm and get myself within 0.5deg of my desired bevel. It just seems bothersome that I'm having to adjust for over 3 or 4 degree inaccuracy on my vise.

I'd get the Gen3 pro, but I spent my money on other equipment for my shop. Any ideas?

If you have the gen 2 vise then it is probably because one side of the vise is fixed and the other is floating so this can cause some of that. But I would check to make sure the tips of your vise aren't bent at all, this can throw things off too.

I am using the gen2, and yet one side is fixed, the right face is not. However, both sides are +1deg from each other. If Im set at 23deg on the left, its a true 20deg bevel. The right requires then a 24deg to offset the moving side of the vise

The angle bar is calculated for an edge height of 5/8" off of the top of the vise... is this about how far your edges are from the top of the vise?

so there's only 1° variation from left to right?

Usually is about 1-2deg variation if I'm counting tick marks on the bar itself, and rarely are any chefs knives 5/8" from the tip of the vise....didn't know that little fact.

Do you have the original arms, or the arms with the ball joints?

Either way, put a knife or something (I use a box cutter blade) so that it is 5/8" above the clamp. Then check the angles. You should be within a degree, and if you have the ball joint arms, you should be able to use the microadjust to set the angle exactly.

If you're 2 or more deg. off doing this, I'd start looking for a reason... is the clamp not centered, angle bar off to one side, etc.

I had the same problem 3 or 4 years ago when I upgraded to the ball joint arms. There was a certain batch that were faulty.
I tried to find my post about it on the Wicked Edge forums but I can not find it anymore. I did find another post that seems to be about the same problem: http://knife.wickededgeusa.com/forums/reply/re-angle-of-the-edge-with-pro-pack-ii-upgrade-14/

Anyway.... WE replaced my brackets and rods so if your WE is from around 2012 you could have the same problem.
