Wicked tough handsaw ?

Watched the vid - looks like a pretty tough (duh.....) hand saw. I'm not well-informed on the prices of other folding, hand-saws, but $40 US doesn't seem too high if it's as tough as their claim.

40 is steep! And as mentioned no one should be knocking down brush. And no one bends a blade that far. My bahco was 12 bucks. If this was under 30 shipped I would do it. And cast aluminum breaks. It is cool but I'd rather have a bush saw from 4 dog. That is 40 bucks well spent.

No experiences with it, looks quite nice. There are quite a few alternatives in that price segment, and I think most silky saws would perform as well. Calling for a saw test here. My Silky Oyakata has a strong metal construction as well and it has lasted me for a good year so far without any problems (excellent for hard woods). I don't chop bush with it, though :D Something worth thinking about might be the availability of replacement saw blades. You can get Bahco or Silky blades pretty much all over the world.

Sorry the wicked is 50 bucks! This is very expensive! I am a saw guy for I like them better than a knife. But once again 50 bucks is very high. At this point I will keep my bahco.

Looks like a good saw, but to call others junk because they break when bent to extreme angles or while chopping brush is silly. Some are junk, like the Bear Grylls saw made by Gerber. Some aren't. A pocket knife is a crap screwdriver. A folding saw is a crape machete.

+1 For silky saws!
Im a climbing arborist and all anyone uses here is Silky handsaws.
They ARE the best!

Man where did you find a bahco for 12 bucks? So far I've been happy with my Silky Gomboy and always wanted to try something else to compare with.

Looks like a contender, if somewhat pricey. I'm partial to my Bahco, and have beat the crap out of it and have had no failures. I'm not sure that an aluminum handle will provide any meaningful degree of usable sturdiness.

No, but it's hardly the first time vendors have tried to prey on the fears of the public that there cutting tools aren't strong enough. It's not like advertisers make this stuff up, more like they shit it out.....................................................................................Hoisted by their own petards: A selling point of their thing is the cast aluminum handle they have and they sneer at the polymers used by other manufacturers. Well, if you're going to pay extra for that feature let's look at what difference it makes. Here are caps from their own video showing the saws of others taking extreme abuse. I capped just before the blades broke. Do those handles look at all like they are failing? Of course they don't. There's a socking great pivot pin in there, almost certainly steel in all of them, that is taking most of the strain off the handle whether the rest of the handle was made from aluminum, plastic, or glass. And anyone that would bet that the handle would break before the blade is exactly the kind of person I could effortlessly fleece money from in meatspace. Aha, mebe someone is already trying to.............................................................

..........................................................................................What do they say is special about their blades? Not a lot. Of course their blades are thick, as they say, thicker than most. For sure they are a third again thicker than mine, affording what is in the vernacular of the feral urchin the property of being "it's wicked tough, bruv". Genius; carry on down that road and we might end up at the same idiotic arms race to toughness that happens with some knives - they won't cut very well but they'll be mighty tough. Who knows, perhaps they'll release a Wicked Tough WNCBE with a 3mm thick saw for SF use. And yup, as some of you have stalled at the $50, note that this doesn't come with any kind of sheath or case either for that either. But they do generously point out that you'll be able to buy one later in the year at additional cost. Nads pumping yet?..................................................................................There's another aspect I'm a bit perplexed by too. I'm going to gamble here 'cos I could be wrong and it could have been a hanging hook, but I'm going with this: I'm all for "brainstorming" as a problem solving strategy. It's a method proven to work. Separating the evaluation stage out from the throw your ideas in stage reduces shyness from potential embarrassment. But surely we all know the difference between what is a "brainstorm idea" and what is a "brainfart idea" when we reify the thought. On that I present you with the below - look at version 1.0. WTF, that looks like a Spyderco style one handed opening hole to me. How was that ever going to work on a device of this size. And worse, an engineer thought that up. It just stinks of someone trying to load up on the gimmicks ab ovo...............................................................................

...................................................There is good news amongst all this. The blades are impulse hardened like Nakaya and Silky amongst others use. For all practical purposes it's just like differential HT on a knife, with the edge hard and the back bendy and tougher. Given how dramatically all the saws in the picture above bent before they broke though I'm not convinced that's a benefit to the consumer. I suspect it's just a cost saving method enjoyed by the manufacturer...................................................................Last, did anyone wonder at how he managed to bend all the saws in the pic above so effortlessly yet when it came to bending his one which is less than .5mm thicker he pulled a face like he was laying a Rubik's Cube. What's up with that?

"a face like he was laying a Rubik's Cube" - instant classic!!!

I bought one for hunting... Because I kept bending blades on my old Gerber while I was up in a treestand!

The Wicked saw has a tough handle and feels VERY well made (All Metal), but the blade bent just as quickly as the one on my Gerber. The saw is heavier than my old plastic Gerber. I'll keep using it because I dropped the cash, but I don't think I'd really recommend it to someone else looking for a good saw just because of the price/value ratio.

I know how to not break my blades and handles...use the saw like a SAW for cripes' sake! O_O;;

Dang dude next you'll be telling us we shouldn't use our moras for rock chisels :) I have a 10.00 Fiskars slide saw that I've used the heck out of and still havent managed to kill it so I must be really lucky.

Yeah I use a Fiskars as well. Never had a problem.

I've had a couple bend on me when they bind up. My silky has more of a spring temper and when it binds it will bend a bit and then pop back to true. It really is a better saw. It's a little heavier and a little more expensive but IME it's worth it.
