Hi All. My hubby died in 2020 and I still have his knives that I'm trying to sell. There are several that I can't find pricing for and I'd like to know if it's okay to ask for help? (I'm posting under Benchmade first as 3 of them are this brand.)

Welcome.

Unfortunately due to past abuse a paid gold level membership or higher is required for valuations. People have used evaluations as a way to skirt the rules here and sell without a membership.

Welcome, and very sorry for your loss. People on this forum will be happy to help, only I think you have to be a paying member. Also, if you are a paying member you can sell knives on our Exchange. So, it may be worth it to you.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I don't plan on selling over the Internet as I'm afraid of getting ripped off. And I'm not going to sell over Facebook as I'm afraid of selling a knife to someone in person. So I'm going to try to sell to people I know. Do you know of any sites where I can find current valuations? For instance, my husband had stereo equipment too, and the site I used for that was called Hifishark dot com.
I know about looking at sold items on ebay, but these knives of my hubby's aren't there. I'm just stumped as to what to do.

Hi everyone Thanks for your replies. I already replied to Locutus D'Borg but I thought I should post a comment as a reply to everyone ...well, I guess the only other one was rycen rycen .
I haven't sold anything of my husband's over the Internet as I'm afraid of getting ripped off. And I don't plan on selling these knives over Facebook as I'm afraid of selling a weapon to someone in person! So I'm going to try to just sell to people I know. And then after that I have no idea what I'll do.
Does anyone know of any sites where I can find current knife valuations? For instance, I had to sell my husband's stereo equipment and the site I used for valuations was called Hifishark dot com.
I know about looking at sold items on ebay, but I'm not finding the knives that my hubby has on there--nothing's been sold lately and there aren't even any current listings to look at. I'm just stumped as to what to do.

Maybe I should ask this: Are there any reliable companies that will buy all of his knives from me? My husband also had photography gear and I was able to sell some of that to an online company that buys used equipment. (As you can probably tell, I've been dealing with selling a lot of things since his death and I am now to his knife collection. It'd be nice to have all of this selling over and done with.) Thanks. (I'm hoping someone is reading this & will answer.)

Hi, I see you're a moderator. Would you please read my last post on this thread? I'm wondering if anyone knows of any companies that will buy my husband's knives from me?

Alright. I see I'm not going to get any advice so I best just delete my account and see if I can find help elsewhere. I want everyone here to know that the people on the camera equipment forums and stereo equpment forums were much more helpful and sympathetic to what I'm trying to do.

Don't delete your account. Most of the regulars here will take a bit of time to discover this thread and answer the question. Be patient. Your answers will come.

Ma'am everyone is sympathetic to what you are trying to do. A gold membership is like $30 for a year and you will not only have an overwhelming amount of help, but people who may want to buy the knives. You can't get ripped off if you are the seller. This may actually be the best place to buy and sell knives being that most of us are obviously knife enthusiasts as it seems your late husband was. It seems like this thread has gone a little off track but I'm sure everyone who has responded thus far will be more than happy to help. I can and will help you. I'm familiar with Benchmade and other brands I'd imagine he also had. Please give it some thought before you take offense. Unfortunately every forum has rules. I'm responding because I'd rather you get the help you want, and maximize your return if your selling them. I will personally go through them one by one with you and help you. Those that I can't value for you I guarantee one of my friends on here will. Just figured id give you my .02.

You’re in the right place. This IS the site to get the info you need and a great place to sell.

This, after less than an hour.
In that time, you were politely told that - without a membership that allows sales - we cannot discuss knife values with you.
You've also expressed that you aren't interested in selling here... So there isn't a whole lot left for us to offer.

Google - "knife consignment sites" - and take your pick...but that is still selling over the internet, and you'll be losing a good chunk of money (assuming, of course, that the knives are taken on consignment)

My condolences on your loss...but perhaps you should take a break from the selling process for a while. It seems to be taking a toll...

Sorry for your loss, but as mentioned earlier, you only gave us 40 minutes. This is not Facebook, or Reddit, but rather a large community of enthusiasts. We buy and sell here constantly, and BladeForums is well moderated to weed out scammers. The community is well versed in all sorts of knives, and if you were inclined, would be a safe way to sell off the collection.

I just joined as well but after looking over the site I'm thinking an auction site such as Ebay is a better option than selling here. Sure here are the enthusiasts but the audience on ebay is larger and I'm sure the same enthusiasts are also monitoring it.

Hi again everryone. I apologize fot being impatient and losing my cool. And thank you for continuing to respond to this thread.

I hadn't thoght of selling here, so when I seaid I wouldn't sell over the Internet I was referring to eBay. And to hhmoore hhmoore , you definitely hit the nail on the head when you said that this whole selling thing has taken its toll on me!

I knew my husband had been a member of another site (BladeHQ dot com) so I went there and saw that they buy knives. I've sesnt them an email and I hope to hear back from them on Monday. I'll be interested to know what they'll offer me for all of them. I'm aware that they probably won't offer anything more than 50% of what they'll turn around and sell them for; but at least that'll help me determine the value of what I have. AND I might just decide to sell all of the knives to them so that I don't have to deal with selling them one by one...but I'll have to wait and see.
Again, thanks for continuing to reply after my hissy fit. It's just been a really shitty 34 months! (I'm apologize ahead of time for typos and so forth that I've made here as I'm writing this at 3:18am with dry and very tired eyes!)

The only thing is that ebay & PayPal have a lot of fees. You might want to compare those fees vs the fees (if any) when selling here. And I'm guessing that you'd probably be less likely to get ripped off here than ebay.

I have quite a bit of experience with ebay but unfortunately I am in Germany (Ebay.de) and I cannot put ad's for Ebay.com on the internet. I have things for sale (German gravity knives) that I cannot list on either site so I was looking at making contacts here....

Whether you sell anything on ebay or here, you really can not get "ripped off" if you are a Seller. Simply because until payment has been made you don't have to ship the item. It is far riskier to be a "Buyer" as you might make payment but not get what you bought.
Ebay & Paypal do have a lot of fees. But they do have a pretty good mechanism for protecting Buyers and Sellers.
