:) Well the wife went to some yard sales this weekend. She came home and said,'' i found you another axe head''. It was a pretty rusty double bit. So, into the vinegar soak for a while, some light brushing produced a couple of words. One was Sweden, the others were ATER BANCO. So, guessing Stater Banco?? The length bit to bit, is 12'' on the money, the eye measures 2'' top to bottom, and each bit from heel to toe, measures 3.5'' across. Its a little pitted, and dinged up,shows some honest wear, but for 2 bucks i can live with it. Had some nicks in the bit, i was careful and was able to get most of them out. And, with my limited skills i was able to put a pretty nice edge on it. Not a bad little axe for the money. It appeared to have had a Oak handle in it at one time, when we drilled it out, it was still solid as a rock, that is , the remnants of the handle that was still in the head.

Good wife. Nice score on the Sater Banco. Sounds like it might be a Puget Sound felling pattern

I know very little about them, but, from the way it looks, I'd say you are probably right on. Its a sleek looking double bit, and i can only imagine what it looked like when new. As is, its still a pretty nice looking axe. Oh, oh, now i owe her, loll. Going to put a nice looking thin type handle on it.

You're a lucky man Arclite881south. Most of us hear the exact opposite....Ohhh honey, I sold those all those yucky rusty axe heads that you had out in the shed at the church bazaar and treated myself to lunch with the girls. Now when are you going to clean out the garage?..........

I hope thats not "Säter Banco" ! Banko is how I always known it.
Maybe its a counterfeit knock-off ?...

Btw, as I known, around 1920 until their end in early 60s, "Säter Banko" was embossed.

Geez man, we need a picture. Now that you've got folks guessing at 'counterfeit' and Puget Sound etc.
