First post on what is sure to be my new addiction for months... if not years! This place is where knife lovers must go when they die AND when they're still living. Anyways, I digress.

I have become a knife lover as of the last year. My collections has grown from crap Gerber blades from Wal-Mart to some ~$100 decent blades. My wife strangely enough has taken a fancy to blades. Days and days and days of Nutnfancy videos corrupted her. She has two Spyderco blades. While awesome, they open slow as (favorite adjective). Back locks are great but just not fast. She wants a Benchmade.

After searching forever I can't find a "good" price so I came here to ask for the immense knowledge of the forum. The knife of her dreams is a Benchmade mini griptilian sheepsfoot with thumb hole in pink. The best I can find is about $80 plus shipping. I payed less for my 550 full sized griptilian.

Any advice is much appreciated!!!!
Thanks :D

Price is relative. Get use to it.

That's the best advise I've got.

Get her what she likes. All the more reason for you to get what you like. Hope you have lots of credit :D.
I got mine a Ti Bump and a rainbow leek when they were available at a good price, plus any knife I get that she likes. Good luck!

Get the Mini Grip for her! Lol.

Or, does she like the look of the Cricket?
You could get the Spyderco Tattoo Cricket - It's a frame lock.

Maybe the Etched or even the Spiderweb Spyderco Spin?

These knives are appealing and cost less. They also will open faster than a lock back.

Look on the exchange on here. I've seen a few full sized Griptillians for around $60 or so.

Get her a custom mini grip from benchmade. Engrave something special in the blade, might mean a little more. And cost more:)

It more than what budget is but Have you looked at Chris Reeve's Mnandi. Mnandi – pronounced mm-nun-dee – is accurately named from the Zulu word meaning “very nice”. They come is I think 11 different Inlays and optional Devin Thomas Damascus. Its kinda expensive but your getting a knife that will last a life time. Its pocket jewelry and tell me a woman that does not like jewelry. Save up and make a it a nice anneversy or birthday gift and surprise, that she did not see coming.

You went from ~$80 to ~$400. Try to maintain perspective.

Thanks for all the advice! You guys are awesome and I'm already feeling at home. Pocket jewelry is a no go. I hope she doesn't open boxes with her ring that could buy me a hand full of CRK's. ;)

I know $80 isn't a lot but for a young teacher making hardly 30k it is not exactly cheap. I'm totally going to get it for her as it's an excuse to get another knife. Hell, I might carry that pink beauty from time to time. My hope was that someone knew a great site with a sale or something. It never hurts to ask right? Being a knife newb there is much to learn. It's my goal to be a productive member of the community here.

Stay sharp!

I believe that pink Mini Grip was a special run that Benchmade did for breast cancer awareness. I also believe that it is no longer produced so if she likes it and you found one, buy it because you may not find another. Be happy she is sharing your enthusiasm for your new hobby. My wife carries a pink Strider PT.

You think that is expensive just wait 6 months to a year you will be spending 400+ on a knife. with each layer of knives you get more use to it.

This is what happened to me and maybe it's similar to other people
Starts with

Cheap Chinese knives- few bucks here and there

Then a victorinox and some cheap Walmart specials

Then comes the Gerber, cheaper buck, cheap kershaw

Next will come the cheaper spyderco, Cold Steel, SOG, more kershaw and buck,CRKT

After you get tired of those you will want the nicer spydercos, kershaw and the first layer of benchmades. Esee Izula maybe

Then you start to breach the $100 mark on your addiction nicer benchmade Griptilian maybe a spyderco paramilitary 2' some boker and more brands

The $100 to $200 range is the big one there's a lot of brands for that kind of money

After the $200 range you start to get use to spending money on the knives benchmade, spyderco, ZT, Protech and Emerson all with even higher end knives.

After that I bought my first Small Sebenza for $350 and I am only a college kid if you told me 6 months before I would spending that kind of money I would have said your crazy.

At the $400+ there's strider, CRK, microtech and so many different brands

$400+ is where i am now after another Sebenza I am now looking for a Strider SMF and a Large Sebenza Micarta that's why I am going to the East Coast Custom Knife Show in New Jersey starting march 1st

I am half worried for when I get bored of Production knives and want the $1000 and up custom knives

Anyway man good luck with the addiction and sorry for all the words I am really bored in class

Wow Willy! That's an addiction that any of us could catch. If that is a disease, then sign me up anytime! It seems that you overlooked one minor, possibly insignificant, detail of my situation. I teach in an area of nation where the base pay for 4th year teacher is a bit above 30K before insurance and other deductions. At times it seems like crumbs for having to teach Anatomy & Physiology, Honors Bio, Soph Bio, Chemistry, Physics and General Science. I'm rather good at all of it but who can master so much. ;)

Here is the main reason I'm even posting. Damn Wills, I remember how I had that kind of budget for polished elemental bars of metallically bonded atoms. I worked through school and was happy to have enough remaining to put some back (most people are too ****** to save) and have a little fun. You and I are both from Earth, but from different planets...

If you really work to pay for school/bills and can afford all those blades you have my sincere respect... Good for you sir. If your parents pay for most of your stuff it's another sincere emotion.

(I say this not directly to Willy, but to any spoiled brat that stumbles across this. Do you have any perspective of the land, the country, you inhabit? I remember those around me in school. They lack all knowledge of those that walk amongst them. The "upper class" can't or won't see the condition of those below. Sorry so off topic but this really took me by surprise.)

Anways,
Stay Sharp!

Get her exactly what she wants, easier to justify buying yourself nice knives when she has one too. Just be prepared to sharpen that thing upon arrival, they come with dull blades.

Honed age I agree with a lot you say but I do disagree with some parts of your post there are many people who spend money on there hobbies including me but I do love it. I can understand why you think i am spoiled by what I typed is not my whole story I was already typing to much and I didn't think that people wanted to hear it. I won't lie i am partly helped out with school and i am very thankful, nobody would turn down a chance at a better life but i damn sure will have thousands in loans to pay back over the course of my life and by me not spending money on other things that normal college kids love and not going out and going crazy spending money on god knows what like I use to in my first 2 years it allows me to work part time during the week and everyday on the weekend allowing me save what is left over to afford my hobby. I don't own dozens of knives I a own small of collection of knives but I still need to pay my share of my apartments rent, gas & electric cable Internet bundle. I don't own a car because I am In a city where I can walk everywhere. I have posted what knives are my collection and I am glad I was able to save, work my job and plenty of jobs because knives are something I like a lot and when you are inspired to do something you make it work.

My parents paying for my knives is a funny concept they both hate them and I am lucky that I can be helped out with some tuition payments because I am getting a good eduction.

I get why you think I'm spoiled my tone in the post it sounds like i am spoiled but if you knew me you would know I am the furtherest thing from that. I care about my name and I was just trying to make the post sound like its a terrible addiction and when there's addiction you love you spend your money but its ok in the end because I am doing what makes me have a great time.

Spyderco also does pink knife, IIRC Native or Sage. Fast Spyderco would be the Tenacious family or Military/Para.

Edit to add: if price is a concern, get Tenacious. It comes in blue and green scale as well.

Thanks for everyone's response. Consider this case closed. My original question was about getting it cheaper than what I had found. It seems that there is no better option. I am getting it, ALWAYS was. Please excuse me shopping around some.

Also, I hope Willy didn't take that as personal. The internet lacking nonverbal communication is a place of poor communication . I'm sure you're not a spoiled brat, especially after reading that reply. Please don't think that I want everyone to suffer through college either. Some have it better and others worse, I despise those that have it way too easy. Wills, do you carry on campus? In IL we have a law requiring you to "notify security" but "no reasonable request can be denied". So, that make it rather pointless. Pointless unlike the knife I carried each day for 5 years around campus never knowing the law! Peace man!

Honed Edge I am very glad everything is cleared up if I was reading my first post without knowing the context I would have thought the same thing especially the remark about custom knives, next time I just have to remember there is no tone on the internet just words. I really do love this hobby it can go on for a lifetime and I think that is the best part of this for me at least and I am glad i am able to save my money and spend some for a really fun hobby.

Thanks, Good Luck with everything
