Actually, it'll probably be used. She's driving the 1997 KIA Sportage that her Dad gave us to save gas (@20mpg). I commute @55 miles round trip M-F, so I drive the 1996 Dodge Neon (@30mpg). She was driving the 1999 Dodge Durango, but we've parked it since it gets @12mpg when she drives it, @15 when I do. Gas is @$2.75-$3.00 a gallon here in Western NC. We take the Neon or the KIA when we go anywhere together and we have a 16month old daughter. We end up going to the Grandparents at least 2 weekends a month. I'm looking for something that I won't be ashamed to drive, with decent power, & good gas mileage and made in the good 'ol US of A. Suggestions? Right now we are looking at the Ford Fusion, Dodge Avenger, Chevy Impala, Saturn Aura, Saturn Vue, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger (I'm dreaming here). I'd love to have some HOG imput.

Buying "made in america" when it comes to cars is over rated. Half those cars you listed are probably made in Mexico or at least most of the parts are. Get a small Honda or Toyota and get 30+ MPG

My brother in law got a Mercury Mariner Hybrid.
Nice little SUV!! There is still a tax credit too

I'm with gimmejr on this. Honda and Toyota are great on mileage and keep resale value fairly good. We are looking for a very inexpensive "family" rig as well, due to the transmissions final failure in our current beater.

new corrolla's get a legit 40 plus highway-at least mine does-always bought american till this car-havent been back to the dealership in 20 grand-no american made car ive owned has done that, the 2000 neon was on its 3rd motor by then-

car has a very nice ride, plenty of head room(im about 6-1)huge honkin trunk-

My 1991 Ford Escort was made in Mexico, my Dad's 1997 Crown Vic was made in Canada, my other car, a Honda Accord was made in Ohio i believe.
