Last Saturday a few of us got together at the Western North Carolina shop of Bill Wiggins. Bill and Daniel Warren forged a laminated stainless and high carbon steel billet that was large enough to get a couple of hunters out of. Randall King and Steven Rapp showed up about lunch time and Steven did a demo showing how he flutes handles. After the handle demo work pretty much slowed up, well stopped actually, and cutting rope, two by fours and water bottles took over.

These are pictures of Bill's son, Will Wiggins cutting. Pictures of of Steven Rapp, Randall King and Bill Wiggins cutting will follow in the next post.

Those are some great photos.
I was impressed with Bill Wiggins cutting 10 bottles until I saw Will Wiggins cutting 12 bottles. I guess that Will is the big cutter in the family. It's nice to see Dan Warren coaching Will in two shots.

Bill, thanks for posting the pics. I know Will and myself had a great time. Instead of another hunter, Will has decided he wants to make a chopper for his next knife. I am a lttle concerned about him out cutting me though..:jerkit: Well, maybe more than a little concerned....

Jim, Daniel done some cutting with the knife he made in Arkansas. It worked well. Wish you could have been here. We had a great time. Since you are retired, you should come visit.

Thanks everyone, for the comments!!

Great pics!! Right down the center.

Guess we'll see this Kid in the Parking lot at Blade09:eek:

Bill,

Looks like Will is a natural. Sign him up! I'll bet he could pitch a fast ball easy enough.

Very cool cutting pictures and impressive for sure. Are the flutes cut by hand using a round file and the jig used to rotate the wood?

Thanks,
Peter

I'm a coach for H/S youth. Looking at Will, I'm not surprised at this performance. Look at his confident smile and full body english following through. He's schooling all of us.

Thanks for the showing. Nice weekend!

I was going to mention the obvious follow through.
He's got his form DOWN!

being in the bicycle business, I get to meet and ride with lots of young people.
The big thing that always leaves me shaking my head is the kind of focus and inherent skill that I see. These young people are superior when it comes to many things, and when I think about the future of the planet and our race, I'm reassured by what I see.
Now, with that being said, my ego sometimes takes a beating, when I get out-ridden by some punk kid. But, then again, since when did my ego have anything to do with anything?:)
Those pictures are a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing:thumbup:

peterinct,

Yes, the flutes are cut by hand with files while holding the material in the jig. The jig is also very helpful in laying the flutes out. Bill

Looks like some great fun!
Bill - Those are excellent shots. Good eye!

Hi Buddy and thanks. You're right, it was great fun, and cutting provides so many good photo ops.
