Wii won't turn on...

Piece of junk! I've had it for barely over a year. I went down to turn it on one day and no dice. Double checked the power, the outlet, the cables, etc. Wii's website says it's no longer within warranty though and it'd cost $75.

Some folks on websites have said to try just unplugging it for a while but this hasn't worked.

Anyone else had this problem, or heard of this?

Did power recently go out? When my power goes out, I usually have to unplug it to reset a built in circuit breaker.

You said you unplugged it, but did you unplug from both ends? Wall and console? If not, try that. If you do have to replace it, don't register the next one until you have a problem.

Good luck.

truth be known, all of the "third" gen consoles are disposable. the X-box 360 still have a failure rate that actually invalidates their UL certification, and some consumer protection law.... and the PS3s have their share of problems. I'd just replace it if you want it, or find someone who wants the accessories.

That really blows. For all the hunting and waiting I had to do to getthis thing. Hell, my wife just got done playing some mario all-stars on my stop functional super nintendo.

I've had mine since last April and haven't had any problems. I was smart though and haven't registered it yet. I'm on my third DS Lite (both white ones developed hinge cracks, after a year and a half the black one is still perfect), so I'm not about to register the Wii until there's a problem and then wait a few weeks and report the problem.

I think it would be worth having them replace it, even if you have to pay something. Just make sure they don't send you a refurbished console.

Of all the current generation consoles out there the Wii is the only one that interests me. There still hasn't been a PS3 game that interests me, and there's not much for the X-Box 360 that I'd want (if you've played one military shoot 'em up, you've played them all and they all suck next to the original Doom).

I know how you feel, my little bro had one, gift from my sis actually, and the drive burned out on it. try explaining to a little kid why he can't play with his favorite toy when he did nothing wrong. plus, between shipping and fees, the new one is cheaper... good thing about the wii, they are cheap! start hitting craigslist, you may find one

Not registering the unit yourself will not help at all. All of the video game consoles are registered when they are sold. When it is sold the seller scans the serial code and it becomes entered into the data base. I used to work at hell err.. walmart. When a customer brought a console in to try to return it we could look the serial number up in the data base and it would tell when the console was purchased and what store it was purchased at no matter who the original retailer was.

I just bought a printer (HP) at Walmart and the checkout girl couldn't get the serial number to scan so she had to enter it manually. First time I've noticed that, but maybe they've done it before and I didn't notice -- I probably wouldn't have noticed them scanning two barcodes on one item.

Yeah, I did not register my Wii when I got it. It must have been done at point of sale.

But, I only wake the dead to say that I went to the game shop for advice, and walked out with a power cord. Took it home and I have a functional Wii now! Wife is playing guitar hero as I type. :D

That I didn't know. Thanks for enlightening me :). I might as well go register it then.

Glad it worked out well for you. I'm a bit paranoid about my Wii because of the hassle I went through to get it (I searched for weeks and eventually my mom found one and bought it for me, so I had to drive two hours and pay my mother $300 for it... but it was worth it). So when a bad storm comes up, I unplug my entire entertainment center. The stereo alone cost more than $2500 and about five years to put together, plus a Wii, HDTV, and ps2... I don't want to have to replace any of it.

Woot! Glad you've got it back in order! :D Now go play some Okami or Twilight Princess. Maybe Resident Evil 4:cool:
