Today I thought it would be interesting to take a small walk from my house( less than 1hr for the circuit) and see just how many wild edibles I could spot.

First up were lots of Thistles and Dandelions ~

Not too many Blackberries around just yet but some could be found if you looked hard !

The Saskatoon berries are nearly finished now but some were still edible.

Take a look around your neighbourhood, you might be suprised just how much you find when you really look !

Looks like your all set-up with plenty to snack on while out hiking ! Thanks for the pics 'Ol Bud

Great post Pit.

I think its a worthy challenge for everyone of us to identify some of the wild edibles on and off our local paths and trails.

I know but a few, certainly too few to comfortably feed me, but I try and spot as many as I can each time I venture out.

This time of year it can be a little easier...and it makes the hard work more fun when you can fill your gob or pockets with some of what you have identified!

I find it kind of odd and funny that, working as a landscaper, I spend so much time trying to remove so many wild edible plants from people's properties as they're considered 'weeds', thistle, dandelion, blackberry, are just some of the really common ones. Would sure be nice to have it as a resource, being that they require no effort to grow. Kinda backwards how we've evolved in that sense.

Cool idea for a walk, I was out with my dog the other evening and there were some FAT huckleberries along the trail, great snacks. Thanks the post Pit:thumbup:

I like that knife. Granted this is bladeforums so that kinda goes without sayin. :) Knowing wild edibles is a bit like having super powers without the need for a cape or funky mask. Nice post.
