Early spring means it's time for some tasty treats! I hit the woods looking for Mother Nature's produce department. :) Here's a few photos I snapped along the way.

Strawberries are everywhere in these woods.

As are mayapples.

A side shot of a mayapple plant.

Burdock and dandelions. I'm not a big fan of dandelions, but maybe it's an aquired taste.

Some decent fire starting material.

Raspberries! I'll be back for these in the summertime.

You can smell the oniony/garlicy goodness when you come upon these.

I used my DP Knives blade to made a couple of digging sticks.

Young cattails, poking up from the mud. My absolute favorite plant.

The final Allium product after cleaning and prepping for fridge storage. I had some of these in my chorizo tacos yesterday!

Good stuff Brother...
I'm pretty sure may apple is only edible during certain times of the year.. in the off season I think it is toxic.
I found some good eats my way including wild asparagus... I;ll try to get some pics up soon.

nice, post! wild onion/garlic is the one i've actually eaten in the wild so far thanks to this forum...otherwise i'm clueless still.

RescueRiley: that's what I've read. Never tried mayapple myself. Congrats on the asparagus! I keep looking for some, but no luck yet.

Doc Canada: you've created a few monsters around here!

Great stuff buddy, I love the posts on wild edibles !

Regarding the Dandelions I've found the young leaves to taste the best. I understand the flower heads are good when fried !!!

As with many wild edibles you usually have to lower your expectations a little when it comes to taste !
