I am looking for an on-line information source for wild edibles. Maybe a searchable database with lots of pictures to help. I am looking into a class this fall or maybe spring and want to get a leg up and see what there is in my own backyard. I am new to this and pictures help me a lot. I have some books that am reading but they are not really picture heavy and not too specific when it came to my geographic area.

I'll gladly show you them. I'm in state and have a good familiarity with many edible, medicinal and misc. plants. Petersen's guide is my favorite followed by the National Audobon Society's guide to wild flowers. Feel free to E-mail and we can plan a plant walk/hike.

Thanks for the book ideas. I will definately check those out. Thanks too for the offer. I am interested in some kind of hike. Unfortunately I am not sure when I will have the time. Two kids starting school soon. I will have to look at my schedule.

Start off slow then. Have a park or open space near you? More than 2.5 hours can be counterproductive at first. Find 90 min and I'll find my way out to you. I live in Clinton and work in Bristol.

I am kind of good with CT wild edibles. The Hickory nuts should be ready this Fall (last year was a winner) and wild grapes are dropping like rain. :)

I would also be interested in this walk and have some knowledge about these plus some books. I'm in the Southbury area but can easily travel or have access to a large-100+ acres- in New Milford that we could use.--KV

I would also be very interested in learning, depending on time and place, I'm in the Hartford area.

I will drive almost anywhere in CT to learn this stuff so whatever works best for you Kevin. September is kind of rough for me but I can definately swing a short hike. Sounds like a great idea. I know next to nothing so I am always looking for a chance to learn.

If you guys want to do a plantwalk, we can plan one a few weeks out on a Sunday (no firearms hunting this day) for an afternoon. Won't take long and we'll make sure to hit a lot of the major plants. Kvaughn, want to set up that spot for this walk? September 12th works for me but then I'm busy until Oct. That area isn't far from I-95, I-91 and the Merritt Pkwy. Shouldn't be far for anyone.

The private land that I have access to is in north New Milford. About 30 minutes north of Danbury on Rt. 7. Kev, you may have thought I meant Milford. If this is too far or there is a more centrally located spot someone knows of I would be glad to travel. Maybe a state park south of I84. I live in Southbury just off I84 and there are quite a few public places here close. I also have a small-(20 acres) abandoned farm next door that might work also. Whatever is easiest for the majority. Seems like most of the responders are a little closer to the coast.--KV
