Not sure how to title this thread, but a discussion in another thread got me thinking about how people would make vessels to escape a wildnerness survival situation. I've read several good books about native watercraft and thought many of you would find them interesting as well. The best two are The Bark Canoes and Skin Boats of North America, by Edwin Tappan Adney and Howard I. Chapelle, and The Survival of the Bark Canoe by John McPhee. Both books have plans and diagrams from which a skilled survivalist could build their own wilderness vessel if they needed to. Also, check out this website. The man makes his own Birchbark Canoes and even sells DVD's showing the process. Be warned though I think he charges something like $100 for the DVD, I emailed and asked him once.
