wilderness campground help!

hey guys looking to work on some camping skills and i need your help to find a place. i live in the midwest and i want to camp in the UP of michigan. i really hate and being shoulder to shoulder at a camp ground with other people. im looking for a camp site that is out in the middle of nowhere. some place i can drive my car in and hike a few miles in and just camp away from everyone....if you cant tell this is my first trip like this. if anyone could help me with a location or some idea of where my frirends and i can do this. thanks for your help.

also if anyone knows gun laws there would be great i was considering bringing a hand gun.

Try BLM land. Lots of online resources to find local maps. You can not only enter armed but you can shoot. Have fun!

You might try asking the Bark River Knives folk; they are located in the UP and I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

the current issue of backpacker magazine had some great articles about liitle known trails throughout the country. but the michigan one is not available to read online. sorry i dont have that issue in front of me right now, but it sounded wonderful. shld still be on the newstands. i do believe you had to be dropped of by shuttle boat...
