Ok I know that ESEE would be the most recommended courses. Plan on down the road going to some. But apart from them what others do you recommend? I'm going to one in Sept put on by Wilderness Learning Center. Any thoughts on this one? Ok lunch is over, back to te office I go.

I've been watching for awhile, this is my first post. If you haven't already done it, I highly recommend a Wilderness Medical Associates course. They give medical courses on how to deal with medical emergencies in wilderness situations. Great course.

Thanks for the imput. I didnt realize that Kevin was a moderator over there.I'll have to venture to that forum more. Just kind of lurk every once in awhile. I paln on next year trying to take that Medical course by ESEE if everything works.

I'm going to the Tracker School Standard this summer - 40th Birthday present from wife & kids. There may be some, as Dave Canterbury says, "Bush Hippy Bull***" but there is some real solid stuff in their curriculum.

I wanted to go to the RAT 5-day, but needed a 2-day prerequisite class and the travel just didn't work out.

Kyhunt, I did the WLC course last Sept. in the UP of MI and it was a very good course. I think you'll really like it, and you'll have the added bonus of getting to meet all the Bark River crew (if you haven't already).

There were lots of good things about the course, but Marty Simon's plant ID was definitely the instructional highlight for me. Hopefully Kevin will come along this time and add his expertise as well.

I'm planning on coming to the post-course camp-in, so hopefully I'll meet you then:thumbup:

You mean the PYP?

Is that open to the public or what? It's not too far from me and I heard about this year's but never how to register for it or anything like that.

Its actually " Camp In" after the WLC course in the UP. The "Camp In" is free. I just sent you a PT on it.

BackwoodsBummin, thanks for that link.

I've been looking for a local school for some training. I plan on attending some ESEE courses in the future but would really like some local training specific to the area where I spend most of my time.

Tarditi, like Kyhunt said I'm referring to the "Camp-In", which is a long weekend of camping that takes place at the same location as the Wilderness Learning Center's 3 day survival course in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The WLC instructors will still be around, as will some of the folks from Bark River knives. It should be a good time.

Its a long way from NC, but last year there were two guys them came up from NC, so its not impossible.

i never been to a nols course but i have heard lots of good things about them and they have courses all over the world but thats also all iv heard about them
