Wilderness EMT(WEMT) Upgrade question...

Hey does anyone know of a WEMT course that is free or at least can get a discount if you are a member of a Volunteer Fire Dept./Rescue Squad? I found one course that is in Sewanee,TN but it is a frickin' week long and EXPENSIVE! I could afford the class but not be out of work/money for a week AND pay for the class as well. When I took tactical medic training my agency paid for it, but with WEMT my FD will not pay for it b/c they are cheap bastards,lol!

WFR and WEMT curricula are developed, maintained, taught, and administered by a small group of private education companies. Some are non-profit, but they are still commercial enterprises. As such, it is HIGHLY unlikely that you will find a credible, recognized program at no cost. If your employer and/or volunteer agency will not pony up the dough then you have to get creative. Grants (for your dept. training needs, and then doled out to you), sponsoring the course at your dept may give a discount. Talking several members to join you may get you a group discount. etc. etc. Get creative.

Another point to ponder. Many, if not most of us on these forums are gear whores. We spend all kind of money on the newest blade, gun, tent, backpack, etc. etc. etc. Silnylon, titanium, D2, etc. etc. etc. How much do we as a group spend on quality training? Probably far less. Just a point to ponder. YMMV.

This is very true. I don't mind spend excess amount on the good shit but for me to miss a week of work and then have to pay for my training......I just cant do it. Thanks BTW

I don't know jack about Wilderness first aid. You would think my Registered Nurse friend Marcelo or Certified Wilderness EMT friend Rescue Riley would help me with that...
