Wilderness hammock

I have a Yucatan hammock that I have been using for all camping, where there were trees and it wasn't snowing, since 1992. It is a lot different construction than the one you linked, but with occasional minor repairs it is still serviceable.
It does beat the hell out of sleeping on the ground.

If I were going to the jungle that's the first piece of gear that I'd choose.

Better that then to sleep on the ground with all the little beasties!!

The one I use was purchased from Brigade Quartermasters and is the same one used by Ray Mears. It's olive drab, made in England and extremely light weight, double layer construction. It rolls up about the size of a pair of sweat pants. The price was very right at about $30.00.

I've seen those before, but never tried one. It sure would be handy, though, around here, with all the trees above and creepy-crawlies below. :~}

What's really neat, though, is that Robert A. Heinlein "predicted" this very product in his book "Tunnel in the Sky". The main character goes on a survival trip with a cargo vest with hydration bladder, and jungle hammock which he sets up in the canopy to get away from "stobors" or other toothy critters. The book was written in the early 50's, LONG before any of these now-common items were even thought of.

Do yourself a favor and get the Hennessey Hammock! Awesome, light and easy to use. Kept me dry and snug in some nasty weather in the mountains of New Hampshire.

They're a small company. I called them up in Canada and I even got to speak with Tom (the inventor and maker). He assisted me in my decision as to which model to purchase.

I have been using the Hennessey for several months now and it is a great product. When I was on active duty in the US Army spent many nights in a GP net rigged as a hammock with a poncho for a roof. The Hennessey weighs 2.5 lbs in the model I use and can't be beat.

I too will jump on the Hennessy bandwagon. Man, it definitely beats the hell out of a tent or bivy if trees are available. Get one of the larger models as it will allow you to rig your gear with a d-ring to one end on the inside of the hammock and keep it dry. Do some research on their website about cold weather sleeping though. It's very easy to get chilled without a good pad under you. Also check out Sgt. Rock's hammock camping website. I gave up tent camping years ago in favor of a hammock.

I have a Hennessy too, but I have a very stern warning about them.

When camping with a big dog, be mindful that the dog may want to get up long before you might feel like rolling out of your comfy summer cocoon. Mine pokes me from below with his big nose at his self-declared trail time. The trouble is hitting the offending dog snout when you are still groggy - you can't see through the bottom to fight back.

So, until there is a good dog whacker or electric fence attached, I'm afraid they suffer a serious design flaw.
