So the wife wants to get me a subscription to a magazine of my choice. I have no idea what wilderness, survival, out of the way mags are out there. I have looked at the usual newstand ones..Outside, Adventure, etc... but I am looking for something different. something with good articles and plenty of content.

What mags would you recommend.

The Backpacker is always nice, especially all of there gear reviews and articles.

Another vote for Backwoodsman. Plenty of articles new and old. Plus lots of do it yourself projects.

I got a Survival Quarterly from Ron Hood who was at Rabbitstick this past September. Very well done magazine and will second Doc's recommendation.

When I saw Ron a day or two later I did offer a suggestion (as there were porta potties at Rabbitstick)... Put a hole in like they do the old farmer's almanacs to hang in the outhouse. Based on the look of Ron's face, I not sure if he was apalled or thought it was a good idea and the wheels were spinning. :D

+1 for Survival Quarterly.

Backwoods Home is another good one, it's more centered around self-sufficient homestead living, but lots of the info carries over to general survival.

FWIW- Wilderness Way mag is bankrupt and no longer publishing.
