Wilderness Survival Institute

not having seen chris's video, i am not a fan of video training for most things, especially for Martial Arts. this is a highly specialized skill that requires several years of training hands on, getting bruises, sore muscles, aches and pains just to start. anyone ineterested in learning martial arts should go to a reputable school, invest the time, and start your journey.
I highly recommend martial arts training for children. It will keep them out of trouble, focus their energies and give them an excellent foundation for the rest of their life.
You would be better off watching discover channel or a Nature show. All martial arts are based on the movment of Animals, watch and copy what an animal does. its how Martial arts began in China, Japan, Korea, etc.

toolmaker,

thanks for your advice I guess I wasn't clear in my question.

I was asking if anyone had any 1st hand "in the flesh" experience.

Chris janowsky(sp?) teaches in Alaska and people fly up there for training. He was in Vietnam and learned Chinese "Chin Na" in China. He continues to teach, and also competes in China.

He calls his style Chin Na, I know that the common term in Chinese is "Shaui chiao" of which Chin Na is but one segment.

I whole heartedly agree that one should learn from a living and breathing teacher.

I waas not aware Chris was teaching any classes anymore. Where do you find out his schedule? I didn't see anything on his site. akraven

I am a huge fan of Chinese Martial arts, best in the world as far as i am concerned. Go for it.

I have personal experience with Chris. I'm the paramedic section of his crew under "about us" @ www.wildernesssurvival.com . He's a bad dude. He can definitely lump you up in a big way if he wanted to. He's a very physially imposing guy, and with the beard, looks like a friggn' wildman. I have experience with his Martial Arts also as he choked me out more than once. The Martial Arts is a very small section of Chris. You should see the guy in the woods. He is truly the last mountainman. That guy could track you by yesterday's shadow, start a fire with a block of ice, and kill a moose with a dam fountain pen. I have seen him stalk, hunt, and dress game. If it walks, crawls, swims, or flys, that guy knows how to catch it or shoot it down.

Chris is the man. I had him build me the mini survival kit, which is the smaller version of his excellent Gold Label kit. He is number one in my book for sheer knowledge and no nonsense survival. I highly recommend his survival videos, and his products.
