Wildlife Hatchet or Small Forest Axe?

I've been scratching my brain over this for a while now and I thought that you guys would have a good answer for me over here in the axe forums. I can't decide which to buy between the two choices from Gransfors Bruks. I would be using it for primarily light bush work in my back yard (it's a small forest), but on occasion I may need to have it do bigger work as hurricane season in Florida in essentially year-round and falling trees and branches need to be dealt with. I prefer something smaller, but not so small that a large knife could outperform it. I appreciate any help in solving my problem. :)

I'd take the SFA over the hatchet any day. But for limbing I don't think there's anything better than a boy's axe.

if I had to step over piles of money just to get into the house... then I would get the SFA. like Peg said, stick with a Plumb Boys Axe on a House Handle :)

I'd go for the longer handle too.
If you must have a GB, there's no substitute. However I rehandled an inexpensive swedish hatchet onto a boy's axe handle and it's a SWEET setup and LIGHT to carry around the yard. The thread is still on the first page.

A Boy's axe or something with a 22"-24" long haft would be ideal. You'll want the extra swing power when the time comes, considering that you're in your backyard. If you were backpacking, well then weight and group size become factors.
I would think you may want two axes, a limber and a feller. And since you're in Florida, I assume you already have a machete. I used lots of machetes for yard work when I lived in Florida.

I consider the scandanavian forest axe to be a better all around performer than the sfa if you want something bigger than a hatchet.
However, I hear the wildlife hatchet performs beyond it's size.

Thanks guys! I think that I'll just go with the sfa, but thanks to Liam I'm going to have to take another look at the scandanavian forest axe :D

I don't really have much to add to the thread, as you've already made your decision.

But I'm curious, what does the SFA go for in the states? Currently I can get it for <$75 over here in Viking land, I'm thinking it might be the one blade related thing that's actually cheaper in Sweland!

Get a GB Forest axe or better yet a vintage boys axe.
I wouldn't fool with anything smaller.

About $127 USD.
