Hi all,

I ordered some Wilkins aluminum scales for my mini-grip. The German postal service website says it was handed to Canadian customs on April 1st and then nothing from Canada Post. CP says there's no information on that tracking number. Anyone had similar experience with Canada Post? Is it just gonna show up at my door one day or is it stuck at customs for a while?

Thanks,

Small stuff sometimes get lost on the handover from mail to the CBSA.

Normally the tracking will stay live on the source country's postal site and also go live in the Canada Post site. It'll normally say something like "in for customs check and say which location" if it's flown into the West Coast for example it'll say in Richmond.

So be ready to start a loss claim. All those freight hubs are semi-mechanized with a lot of machinery and conveyor belts. Envelope sized stuff can just get sucked into the works and shredded.

Ouch! Sure hope that's not the case. I'll give it a week or so and then I'll get a trace going. Thanks,

My Wilkins grips got stuck in customs for almost a week but other than that I had no issues with them coming from Germany.

I ordered half dozen in the past and always received them in timely fashion, 1-2 weeks.Never had any issues.Cheers.

Can you call and ask? It's only been 6 days, without counting the weekend it's 4 days and more like 3 if it landed in customs on a Friday.

You can't call unless you know someone on the inside. Otherwise all that would happen is all day long they'd be fielding calls from people with tracking anxiety disorder. If it's in the system it's online.

Let me see if I can pull one of my old tracking #s.

OK so here it is. A USPS tracking number punched into the CP website. It shows the merry journey something i wanted took.

Bonus points for USPS because they got it to the nearest port of entry ASAP so it was out of their hair and double bonus for CP and CBSA for not clearing it in that port but instead roading it to the Wet coast and then back my way.

Yeah, I think I'm a little too impatient. I'll wait an extra week and then start to make some phones calls/tracing if nothing gets updated. I'm too excited over here! ahhahah

Also,

Does Wilkins grips ship in a box or in a bubble wrap letter? I found this: http://forums.redflagdeals.com/canada-post-kills-international-inbound-tracking-1819377/

It appears that CP no longer tracks inbound international items. That may explain the lack of updates.

The exact message that I get from Canada Post website for the tracking number is this:
We were not able to find any results
There is no information available for this international item. Tracking by Canada Post is not a feature for this product.
Expected Delivery : 1-12 business days

So they are aware of the package. Just not providing updates for it. I think I'll just sit tight and it should magically appear in my mailbox at some point! :D

Thanks,

Good news and bad news.

The item was attempted to deliver today but I wasn't home to receive. I got dinged with a $40 customs charge though which I wasn't expecting. Did anyone else had to pay customs for Wilkins scales.

Also, Canada Post never updated the tracking info but the German Post did.

Thanks,

Al

Good news.

The customs charges have always felt really arbitrary. I've had a lot of expensive stuff land that was ignored and then some mid price stuff that was charged.

I have some bike parts coming in by mail that are priced over the threshold so I'm waiting to see if they ding me or not.

Welcome to our new liberal gov't. My knives and parts used to come thru about 75% of the time without customs. Not that they weren't supposed to be but apparently mostly it wasn't an issue, or no one cared enough.... Within days of the election 100% of the time they are all assessed fees, all the time. Get used to it the Liebrals need to pay for all their spending somehow, and that means squeezing their only money source, the people. The fees are typically taxes, and handling fee, the value used is in Canadian $ and includes not only the value of the item but also the shipping.

Really kills the fun in importing stuff...
