for limited chopping that is.
I am trying to put together a woods combo: chopper, fixed blade, and folder. The rub is that the chopper can't be so big as to be left at home due to weight. Intended uses are cutting cane for duck blinds and general camp/firewood use here in Alabama. I really like the patrol machete but have a hard time justifying the cost because the only time I really use a machete is cutting cane for a duck blind and my el cheapo gets the job done "okay." Plus, I can't see totin' the PM while backpacking - the Brute is big/heavy enough as it is.

FWIW, I fully intend to get the BK7. Don't really know what I'll use it for, but it's so much blade for so little money, I can't pass it up.

Also, the fixed blade will likely be a Busse Basic 5 or comparable, and the folder is a BM 710.

Thanks for any input.

The Brute is an excellent chopper. I have chopped plenty of wood with mine. I think that would be an excellent choice.

There was a review somehwere of the Brute that spoke of its chopping ability. I'll try and find it and post a link.

I have my Brute piggybacked with a Fallkniven F1, a ferrocium rod, and 30' of black 550 parachord.
I think this would suit your needs for many uses. My PM does not feel any heavier then the Brute amd may a bit lighter too.
