I was wondering paragon makes knife making kilns and ceramic kilns if they get to the temp and have a controller will they work?

If they get to temp and have a controller, they will work :D.

I don't have experience with ceramics kilns, but they may take a good bit longer to come up to temp, especially the bigger ones.

I saw some on craigs list that might work 2350 deg, in an 1.5 hr is that about right

But my only concern is a top loading kiln will burn your eyebrows if you open it to retrieve red hot blades. All the heat rushes up and out.

I have a top loader. I cut a slit in the top and hang the blade in verticaly with GOOD wire. Drill a hole in the tang. Real easy. Mine is a Skutt. Heats up to 1500 degrees in about 25 to 30 min. Great oven. Working on 7 yr. in use.

someone is giving me an old glass kiln...well not old, just not tall enough for him. but I can't wait to give it a shot. programmable heating and cooling cycles ftw. I would imagine most ceramic/glass ovens would work well since they all usually operate in the same range as steel.

I have one that I have never even wired up. It needs one of the firebricks on the lid replaced/repaired but otherwise seems to be fine.

Looks like your about 3 1/2 hours from me. If your interested send me an email or pm. I'd bet we can come to a deal on it pretty easily if your willing to make the drive.
