I'm seriously thinking of buying an Emmerson Commander or an "auto". The Emmerson with the wave feature looks even faster than an auto. The thing is will that wave feature tear up my pants pocket. Anybody out there have any practical experience with the Emmersons

Yes.Continued use of the wave feature will wear Your pants pocket to a fray.Someone on this or another forum suggested waving it open just enough to become proficient then start using the disc instead.I've owned two Commanders and One Mini-Commander but didn't carry them enough to wear out My pockets.tom.

Never had one myself, but had a buddy try to show off his "wave" feature and he tore the corner of his pants out. I laughed pretty hard about that one.

Eventually, I guess it could create some wear issues. It depends on how forcefully you pull it out of your pocket - I've found that it doesn't take much force at all to wave. If you're careful, you'll probably never notice.

I've never had any problem with mine. If you wear suit pants or fine italian slacks everyday, it would probably be more of a concern than if you wear jeans or khakis. It might look a little silly to have a big knife clipped to the pocket of a suit anyways.

They're alot more fun than an auto, safer, and with less legal issues. Go for the Emerson.

ayup! if'n ya' use the wave much, it will wear yer pockets out. Obviously the degree of wear is highy determined by how hard or soft you "wave" the knife open. The wave itself also works better with some pants than other. It works real decent with my Carrhart Jeans and Levis, but it's not that effective with Lee jeans. I'm guessing that would be due to the angle the pockets are cut.

I've got about four pairs of jeans with the "wave signature" on 'em. All things told though, I think it adds a bit of character.:D
