Will a Nikon D40 body and lens fit in a Maxpedition Proteus

Would anyone happen to know if a Nikon D40 with an attached lens (prime lens so relatively short) would fit in a maxpedition proteus? I can't get a feel for the interior pocket size on the proteus and I'm curious if anyone has one and thinks a D40 might fit inside.

Alternatively does anyone know a forum that might be able to answer this question? I'm only on car, knife, and flashlight forums so I don't know what bag/camera forums might be out there that could answer the question.

Google search didn't turn up anything useful on the combination of the two.

Measure your setup. According to Maxpedition, the Proteus has a 9 x 6 x 3 main pocket. I'll try to remember to look at one at the store tomorrow and let you know.

Those dimensions are what have me wondering. I think if it was 9x6x4 it would fit my camera fine, so I'm wondering if I don't put anything in the front pocket (which they list as having a width of 1.5") would the center pocket stretch to fit? Then the question becomes do I want to stuff my camera into bag that's just barely wide enough to hold it? Will the zipper be scraping every time I open it? Etc.

Thinking about it further I think I'm going to look for something slightly bigger. What I really want is a full on camera bag with padding, waterproof opening, and Molle attachments -- but I haven't found that anywhere.
