I am looking for a huge chopper knife 12+ inch 1/4th inch knife, It does not have to be expensive steel, 1095 or 5160 is fine, the blade does not have to be polished, coated a patina etc is fine, the handle does not have to be expensive material I just want a huge thick knife that can chop though a telephone pole basically. It does not matter if the knife is not polished to a mirror shine and laser cut as it will be a knife to use and beat.

I have heard of Justin gGngrich and I have seen a few of his customs on this thread http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=793147 that I love, but even in 1095 or 5160 or whatever is cheapest they could be 700$, Is there any custom knife maker that does a decent job I could get one from for under 400$?

I would keep your eyes on the for sale forums for something made by Bill Siegle. He makes some beasty choppers...

Here is a link to a search I did in the for sale forum for Bill Siegle. Look at some of those posts and let me know what you think!

maybe GL Drew, he can keep things simple with forged 5160 handled in beadblasted G10 or dress them out with brass and stag.

You can also buy kukris all day long under $400.

Justin can hook you up in your price range.

So are you going to spend $320 or $400? You seem to have two threads going about the same type of knife, with two different prices. The best thing to do would be to contact the actual makers you're interested in and find out what they can make for you in the price range.

You need to go the Mineral Mountain's site. They have what you need.

I only readily have 320 on hand but if needed I could probably get 400$ if I had to.

Mineral Mtn has some beasts for $300. I spent too much time on there today looking at stuff. In my mind I spent around $1000 today the site. Probably in my best interest that I don't actually have a spare $1000 laying around right now.:D

cramsey3006 has the right idea.

Any of the 12" Bowies by Ted Frizzell at MMHW would do the job. 5160 steel and super tough. Check'em out:

White River Bowie 12" blade: $300 or Survival Bowie 12" blade: $300 would be my top picks. I have a Mini Starlight and 10" Cabin Fever. Ted sends them out crazy sharp and they stay that way. Edge retention on his blades is phenomenal.

For $300 you’ll get the opportunity to spend the rest of your life futilely attempting to ware out a great chopper!

I am sure that you could come to some sort of arrangement with Dan Brock at Plowshare Forge. Draw what you want and shoot him an email. He is a pleasure to work with.

He says 140-200 is ballpark for a 14" Bowie. I think he is what you are looking for.
