I'm going to be taking my TGLB out hiking/camping for a few days. Mine has the CF on it and while I've used it for a few tasks I've really babied it. Thanks to Jerry's recent announcement that CF is no longer being offered I'm having serious second thoughts about using it for camping because I really don't want to screw it up.

I'll be mostly processing wood with it. But my concern is with cleaning. Does pine sap, dirt, etc. get stuck in the texturing of the CF and become VERY difficult to remove? Any cleaners that'll make easy work of any such crud?

I can always take my CS Kukri which is already marked up to hell or my SYKCO Regulator but I was really hoping to make this a user and not mark up the blade at all retaining it's excellent looks. So can I have both with the CF?

Thanks

making something a user and not marking up the blade will be hard:cool: its a busse , i say use it and use it well then take pics and post them up:thumbup: when she s so ugly you cant take it anymore send it back in. as far as cleaning goes ive cleaned my satin users with dishsoap and water first, then flitz polish and a wipe down did em just fine, cant imagine the cf would be too much different .

What do you mean by "send it in"? Like send it back to Busse?? What would they do in terms of cleaning that I couldn't do at home?

Thanks!

Worrying about not using a Competition Finish blade is antithetical to the very notion of that finish. The whole point of that option - basically - was as a factory, uncoated, roughly finished blade to use and beat on that's cheaper than Satin and easier than having to strip a coating yourself.

It's not a beauty queen; beat on that thing, and when you're done - beat on it some more.

:)

I've not had any problems cleaning tree gunk off my blades. I usually just scrub them down with a kitchen sponge and some dish soap. If I have something really nasty on there, I have used some mineral spirits on a rag. This is a Busse we are talking about, you don't have to treat it like it's made of egg shells.

That should loosen it up some. May not be needed, gas will even remove roofing tar on contact. Gas does not seem to be used as much anymore as it used to be as a solvent. I remember my dad having a parts washer with diesel in it. If that did not get it clean you poured a little gas on it and scrubbed.

...I thought you were going to say "...you poured a little gas on it and LIT IT"... now being a Busse I think that'd work to. I've always wondering about that...using INFI as a fire poker or cooking something right on the blade.

I know it is infi but I wouldn't want to get any steel really hot.

Acetone will break down just about anything including all oils, leaving a very clean blade, if you didnt want to get it wet. But soap and warm water would get the wood and grime out of my scrapyards crinkle coat just fine.

Everyone here has some really awesome suggestions! Acetone does work like a charm on just about everything (except the coated blades :D). If for some reason you encounter something you can not remove, send it to us and we will fix it up for you :D The beauty of the Competition finish is that it looks good but you don't feel guilty using her :D Have fun beating on your TGLB!
