Will Benchmade service a de-assisted 580?

Hi all,

This is my first post in this sub-forum, so forgive me if I'm not very knowledgeable on this topic.

I've had my Benchmade 580 in 154CM for a number of years. It was one of my first "good" knives and it has been heavily used over the years. Early on, I removed the "assist" function on the knife because I really didn't like that aspect of it at all. I was just getting ready to send it to BM for their Lifesharp/Blade replacement service and read in the fine print that altering/disassembling the knife voids the warranty.

My question is: since I'm not asking Benchmade to replace anything for free, just wanting to pay the $30 for a new blade and maybe a little cleaning in the pivot area, will they still help me out? Or am I just straight out of luck? Anyone have experience with a similar situation?

Thanks in advance!

My thoughts are that they may or may not charge you a reassembly fee (what they charge people who send in completely disassembled knives) which I think is $25. I think it will probably depend on who happens to service your order. I doubt they would actually void your warranty or refuse service, they probably just have that in their warranty info to protect themselves.

I’ve actually been wondering the same thing as I have a knife in a similar boat as you. Keep us posted if you send it in. Maybe somebody with direct experience will provide more info

At this point, even if they charge me a reassembly fee in addition to the blade replacement fee, it'd be worth it. Hoping somebody will chime in who's dealt with this before I send the knife in.

From my understanding Benchmade is pretty lenient with their warranty policy. They really do try to help people out. Someone has posted here about sending a knife in with after market scales and it was serviced.

Jimmy may be able to clarify? @Benchmade

Yes, send it in! We can leave it with the torsion spring removed.

I love when the manufacturers take care of their customers. Benchmade has made me a convert.

They sure will, as I've sent them one before. That said, they sent it back adjusted way too tight, didn't fix the issue I sent it in for, and they either forgot or neglected to put the safety switch back in it when they returned it to me. But they didn't bat an eye at the spring being removed.

B BKC Customer Service -- just thought I'd report back and say that I received my knife back from you all last night. It was immaculate! Looked like a brand new knife almost. I'm extremely impressed! Thanks! Looks like I may have to pull the trigger on a couple new Benchmade's now! (Who am I kidding -- I was looking for an excuse)
