I have an old Buck 303 Stockman. It has broken scales on both sides. Do you think Buck will repair or replace it? Thanks!

i'd give them a call and ask. though, i doubt they will without a fee. scales are typically considered cosmetic. i don't know any knife manufacturer that warranties cosmetic damage.

There is a member here who collects and (I think) repairs 300 Buck series knives...I can't recall his name...He may be able to help you if Buck can't... :)

Hey Pogo,

How about a photo, so we can kick the tires and she what she's worth..................I myself limit my work so as not to become skilled and expected to work by the wife, but Buck might be more receptive if you had a old knife with same type scales but worn out blades you could send in and they would put your better blades in the other scale body. Or they may just send you a new knife. Joe's call. You will have to except new style escutcheon plates unless you come up with some old scales.

PS I found a nice almost new Case double X blue pic bone three blade in the church parking lot, will I go to hell if I throw it in the trash..........

I'd like to hear more about the broken scales (or better yet, see pics). I've always considered those scales bomb-proof and you've got two broken!? I would have bet money that those cockroaches you always hear about surviving a nuclear war would be carrying 300-series Buck knives with the handles in tact.

Broken scales is probably the rarest type of defect found on the 300 series. Actually, the same can be said for just about any of our knives. 9 outta 10 times when we do see a broken scale/handle/inlay, the knife had been run over, like someone just found it in a church parking lot...:)

The delrin sides of a 300 series were either welded on with ultrasound or molded to the metal sides. Because of this, we dont really have a fix. If it is old, we might be able to locate another used one with the correct size inlays and epoxy them on. I dont know how well that will work but I would think that with normal use, it should last quite a few years.

What Joe said, and I will add, although not a scientific survey, in my travels across the dark floors of knife collecting, I most often see broken scales on the old schrade contract 300s. It would appear either by aging or by formula the scale material is more brittle than 70s,80s or 90s Delrin.
I found a 309 at country gravel road stop sign once, it had been run over a number of times, it was scruntched shut. I slipped increasing size bladed screwdrivers in the blade well and got it operating. Still a little crooked but a good ash tray knife...

No one is claiming the Blue bone Case, will look at it as if it was placed for me to find and to conduct a local dollar per entry drawing to raise money for a actual good cause. (Just working on the hell part)
