Will CPM-3V throw sparks when struck by a piece of flint, quartz, or chert rock?

NOT easy with ANY steel, much less hardened CPM-3V with its alloy content... I've seen video of Cody Lundin (famous survivalist) trying and failing to generate sufficient sparks for a fire with flint off the soft spine of a carbon Mora :( There's a reason they invented the ferro-rod (and matches, and lighters, etc.) Have you been trying?

I've made it happen with 1095, and O-1 knifes (as long as they are hard enough), but you're right it isn't easy. I'm generally successful w/ designated fire steels, but I've always had charred material. After posting this I found a tread where someone said CPM-3V will work. Unfortunately I can't find it now.

Maker Rod Garcia says:
As with A2 you will be unable to derive a spark from 3V by the flint and steel method.

Not sure why that should be so, but I use old files with natural flint, and I doubt I will be banging why two 3V knives with flint to find out.
