Wondering if the D2 on these knives will Patina?
If so, does anyone have pics?
Also if so, what is the best method to get patina (on purpose)?

I gave one of my friends one of the first run numbered D2 rats a long time ago. He uses the shit out of it. Cut literally anything with it. When he brought it to me the other day to sharpen it had very little patina, but had some none the less. I removed it with one of the girlfriends makeup sponges and some Mother’s mag polish. Extremely easily. If your worried about it, don’t be.

D2 is -nearly- stainless and largely just darkens slightly unless you really go crazy with trying to patina it. I haven’t tried to force a patina on D2, but I’ve found mustard to be an excellent catalyst when forcing a patina on 1095 knives. Some people have gone as far as to just get straight vinegar (acetic acid), but mustard’s consistency does give you a little more control and allows for precise application with a q-tip.

As mentioned, D2 is a Semi Stainless Tool Steel.. you might find a Chemical you could force a darkening with. ——-My question is why??—————If you like Steels that take a patina, go with a Carbon Steel. Just my 2 cents!

Just read that you we’re trying to force a patina lol. I have a super blue stretch I forced a patina on and it came out freaking seeet. Straight two tone. I just grabbed a few strawberries and ran the super blue part of the knife back and fourth over and over again for like 30 min. Mission accomplished. I’ll dig through google photos and find the pic and put it up for you tomorrow. Try it!
