Will I Ever Get My Rhino?

I've had a pre-order for the Rhino since 6-16, 22.5 Months. 5-17 Spyderco News Letter, Factory & Materials Changed, out by end of 2017. Did not happen. Here on this forum a couple months ago, knives are being made & out soon per Mr. Glesser.

Will this knife ever be available for me to buy? If so, When?

Thanking you in advance for your reply.

Google and the Search function on both this forum and the Spyderco website forum is your friend... I recall Sal answering multiple threads like this saying they are working in getting a new manufacturer. For more specifics, see the search function.

They changed manufacturers, which caused delays in production. Over on the Spyderco forum, the designer shared that a conversation with Spyderco revealed the knife will be released very soon. He wasn't able to give details, but it sounds like it might be out in the next couple months.

As mentioned, we changed manufacturers. This required that we go back to square one. New protos, new tooling, new production. We've approved of the proto. Made the tooling, gotten production sample made from tooling and production is being done now. I know it's been a PITA for you to wait and especially for the designer and his disappointment. We do the best we can, but we won't put out an inferior product. In reality, it's been way more of a PITA for us. We will soon have a model we can all enjoy and of which we will be proud.

Looks like these are available at some dealers now.

Glad they’re finally out...I was thinking bc they’re so small they might have fallen between the cushions in a sofa somewhere in Golden!

Looks good 4mer, thanks for sharing. No I'd waited so long, some other knives came out & I spent my money on knives that could actually be shipped when ordered. How's the action? Can you one hand flip it open & closed or is the blade to light? Thanks.

I have a new approach for Spyderco, I'll not pre-order any at all so I cancelled all my preorders, almost a dozen. I still love Spyderco knives & I'll buy when in stock. Budgeting a dozen on pre-order & waiting 6, 12, 18, 24 months, I miss a lot of other brands I love too. Spyderco is just to slow & undependable on Taichung, Taiwan knives. Golden, CO is doing great on the other hand & I will pre-order there, as I feel those knives are shipped quite timely with excellent quality.

I can't remember how many Spydies I pre-ordered "back in the day" and forgot about...
Needless to say on the release day I ordered another, then a week later I get 2 in the mail...another eye-roll.
I just stopped pre-ordering after a while, for many reasons, including finding the thrill of the new release had diminished by the time it was actually available to purchase.

I can’t quite flip it open reliably, but it was stiff out of the box and I’ve only had it a few hours. It seems to be breaking in quickly though. I’m not sure it will ever drop shut like a well tuned PM2. To close it, I’ve been turning it in my hand, hitting the lock with my thumb, and doing a Delica sort-of shake. I may loosen the pivot in a day or two.

Fit and finish is what I’ve grown to expect from Taichung.

The clip is unique, so far as I am aware. The hole pattern seems interchangeable with Benchmade, although the screws are not.

Ok, after 24 hours it has become a lot smoother and I can flip it open readily if I grip towards the back and use the correct thumb motion.

Closing is easier too, but I think the Delica shake is going to be the long term answer, mostly due to the small overall size.

It Had its initiation by opening boxes today. Little guy’s the BOMB at small task EDC stuff. I like it!

4mer, thanks so much for the update. Thats exactly how I'd be using it so it should just continue getting smoother. I'd always intended it to replace my Chaparral, loved the blade but hated the thumb nail buster thin back lock.

When my knife budget rebuilds in a few months, Rhino here I come. Thanks again.

I wish it was 30% bigger, I like the design but when I held one in a store it was so smalli jus couldn’t handle it

Here’s some size comparisons. First with my “small” knives:

Then with my “large” knives:

Still digging this little guy. It’s become qute the fidget knife.
