Impressive pic!!
What's really interesting too me about these khukuris is that it can be propped up on something (solid of course) and a ew steps taken back from it and you will find that it is perfectly proportioned to the one on the H.I. website.

I am like you bro and think it's an ugly knife, but I have to admire its performance.

The hardy adventurer just drank from a stream he thought was pure glacier fed water not knowing that upstream was being used by a herd of yaks as a giant bidet.

I said he was hardy, not smart.:-)

Hello Bill
That looks like a real bush hog I'm sure Will is getting a rush out of it.

The piece of wood was parted with one blow. From the damage it looks like the Mega Salyan was more akin to using a sledge hammer.

Uncle Bill, think Sher Bahadur Bishwakarma could do one of these for me?

Will -- I think that khukuri is ugly but beautiful. If the handle was not thick like an AK 15"er, it would be one wild blade to reckon with, or should I say to wreck with. When I get my money in order, I wanna get a 15" AK built by Sher. Thin handle and a weight of about 2 lbs.

Uncle Bill's right. That is hideous! If it didn't perform so well I bet he wouldn't offer it.
Always a pleasure Uncle Bill

Due to size and weight the Mega Salyan is an awesome performer -- but it is still ugly. But the bottom line is looks have little to do with performance but it is nice if you can have both -- beauty and performance.

The Newaris make beautiful junk khukuris that sell by the 1000's but they won't cut anything.

It sure doesn't look ugly to me. However when I look at a blade what I really see is its performance, based on what I have seen with my Salyan and Will's comments with his - that is one fine looking blade.

Now that I've played with the 26" Kora and with the 30" Sirupati I'm looking at the Salyan in a new light. At it's largest, the circumference of the Salyan is 5 1/2". At it's smallest, 4 1/2" around. With a foot long blade and an 8" long handle, this is really well enough balanced to use single-handedly if the handle was reduced, and I think it can be, at least enough.

"...this is really well balanced enough to use single-handedly..."

Yes, I did take my medication before I wrote that. At least once, maybe twice.

The beauty of this khuk lies in its shear brutality and potential (destructive) energy. This is the British Bulldog of khukuris--so ugly they're attractive in a bizarre way.

Bill,

I looked, and looked, and looked again. Then I got some sleep and started over. Well, it does look a little fatter today but it also still looks cool.

It reminds me of those heroically proportioned kopis you see on ancient Greek pottery. While I can appreciate the grace of a limbu pattern, I can also appreciate the strength and authority of this pattern. By the way, is this Will Kwans design or a traditional pattern? Anyway I can see that it is beautifully executed and would function quite well for certain tasks.

This is a BirGorkha rendition of the SuperSalyan. Will renamed his the MegaSalyan. Every now and then we will get a few interested people and will produce four or five of these for very hearty folks. It certainly is too much for me.
