Will mini-CQC7B suit me?

Hi, I was thinking of getting my first Emerson, a mini7B. I usually carry small folders of other makes, IWB, tip-down in the front.

I have a toddler that I carry very often, so I generally don't carry tip-up, in case the blade opens accidentally and cuts my kid. I was thinking of wearing the mini7 tip-down IWB front.

How strong is the ball detent closer on the mini7...does it keep the knife securely closed?

Also how good is the lock? I use a lot of thrusts in my knifework(then rotate out), so will the blade stay locked under all this stress?

My last question is the black finish...I work in a financial trading room, and I like my knives very discrete. If I get the satin finish and wear it tip-down, will the shiny metal show? If so, I should get the black finish, to be more discrete, right?

Thanking you in advance for your replies.

Hi,I have a mini 7b which I like very much maybe more so than the "full size" ones.Ok, the blade stays closed on mine just fine, plus you can tighten the pivot to any suit your tastes with a screw driver. When worn tip up like mine a lot of the knife shows,I have never switched it to tip down but the placement of the screw holes are much higher so it will ride deeper and show less.I would go black if "showing"is a big concern. My 3 CQC7's all have good locks.

The mini's are stout "little" knives,if you wear it tip down, iwb and have black on black it will hide as well as any knife could.

I have a Mini A BT plain edge. It's a stout little knife. Mine locks up very solid. The double detents keep the blade shut. I don't "flick" my knives open anyway, so it works fine for me. I agree with the above; get the black T and carry it tip down = no show. I work in an office and carry another clip-carry folder all the time and no one has ever noticed it or asked me about it, it has a bead-blasted gray titanium clip. I often notice knives in the pockets of other people. Just saw a Spyderco Police "in plain sight" the other day. When I asked the guy about his "Police" model, he said, "How'd you know it was a Police Model?" and we ended up chatting about knives for a few minutes. Just my two cents, Leo G.

awesome choice with the Mini CQC7B. I just boughtone with the black t blade and it has become my favorite replacint both my P-Sark and my boa as EDC. the ball detent keeps the blade firmly in place on mine and I have the pivot set with just a little bit of tension (ai also do not flick my knives open.) if you carry tip up in your right pocket the blade is usually held closed by your pants and won't come open. I actually have never had tip up knives open on me but have had a few problems with two different tip down knives. everything I get is tip up now. It does look like it will ride very low if you do switch to tip down though. angain excellent choice My favorite Emerson and so far my favorite EDC.

I carry my satin mini-7A a good deal. Got it for Politically correct carry 'cause I figured the people I work around would be less threatened by the clip point and satin finish than by a black tanto. I also find the clip point is a better daily user for me than the tanto. Carry tip up 'cause I've had problems with 'em opening in the pocket. Don't know what would fit your circumstances best though.
But they are very solid knives.

Carried tip down, you should have no problem concealing it. Tip up, as said, you'd want the black blade. I've had my mini B for almost a year now and I really like it. I had some problems with my lock at first but after some tinkering, I got it worked out. If it gets any worst though, I'm going to send it back to EKI. At any rate, check one out, it's a great stout little folder that will take some abuse.
Thanks,
MAtt
