Will my hands fit on the Spyderco Dragonfly if they fit on the Mini Grip?

Hey guys
Thinking about picking up a new Spyderco to add to my collection, and I love the look and size of the G10 Dragonfly. My cutting tasks are minimal, I just enjoy having a knife to play around with, as well as the occasional package-open and whatnot. My one concern would be the size, which leads to my question:

My hands fit just about perfect on the Benchmade 556 Mini Griptilian handle. I can get all 4 fingers on there (having all 4 fit is a MUST). Given this, would I be able to get all 4 fingers on the G10 Dragonfly if I choke up on the finger choil (I love using the choils, so that would be my preferred method of handling)?

{Please note that I thought the handle on the Spyderco Persistence was just a tad too small. It doesn't make sense, as I feel that the handle on the Persistence was longer than the Mini Grip, but perhaps it has to do with the curvature.}

I love the blade shape, steel, G10, size, and weight of the Dragonfly. Just a little worried about the handle size.
Thanks for your help.

Using the choil the dragonfly actually may have slightly more room for your fingers than the mini grip. Its a comfortable 4 finger grip for me with my largeish hands while the mini grip is a 3 1/2 finger knife for me.

Wow, that's a surprise, thanks! I've read there have been some complaints with blade centering. Did you have that problem?

The ergos on the dragonfly are really quite amazing, its really the definition of spyderco's "little big knife" philosophy. With regards to centering, its a sub $100 production knife...there are bound to be some variances. I've owned 4 dragonflies of various flavors, one was off center, but nothing a little tweaking couldn't fix and certainly nothing that affected performance. My g10 version was perfect if that's what you're wondering, since that seems to be the one you're interested in.

You're selling me on the dragonfly!!! Have you ever handled a delica 4 ffg? I'm trying to decide between the 2.

Yup, the delica is quite a bit larger, but not effectively bigger in the handle as it seems when the finger choil and pinky shelf of the dfly are taken into consideration. I personally prefer a larger knife than the dfly as my primary edc, however, I carry a fully serrated dfly salt as a backup blade along side a larger plain edge blade every day. If you're only planning on carrying one knife, the delica may be a better choice (its about the size of your mini grip but with slightly more handle). That g10 dragonfly is really nice though, and disappears in the pocket. Tough choice, good news is you can't go wrong.

Ya, the D4 may be more well-rounded...but I do love the compactness and f&f look of the DFly. It seems much more classy and elegant, and the D4 just looks rugged and, honestly, ugly.

My DF2 is one of my favorite knives, period. It is amazing how much you get in such a small package. I can get all 4 fingers on it too.

If you can wait another day or 2 my dfly will be here, I EDC a mini-grip and have 2 delica 4's so I can do a side-by-side for you. I got the delica4's first knowing full well I would get a dfly, but the larger delica appealed to me more, honestly I'm not sure how much use I'll get from the smaller dfly but well see soon.

Its no looker but spyderco isn't selling the delica based on beautify, there's a reason its such a great selling knife, ergonomics are top notch with it (and several other spyderco's as well), I can only imagine they've got the dfly down-pat as well.

Ya that'd be awesome, I'd love to see them side-by-side!

Ya true, but I just enjoy having a "pretty" knife :P

I find the Dragonfly more comfortable than the Minigrip but it takes some getting used to. I have the ZDP-189/British Racing Green FRN version. The Cold Steel Tuff Lite is also an option if you feel you need a thicker handle.

I have both and EDC my mini-grip. I have bigger hands and can't easily open the dragonfly. Once opened though, it is a big little knife, meaning it feels like a much larger knife than it is, which is a good thing. I always wanted to like the Dragonfly, but gave it to my wife.. the mini-grip is the same, it's a big-little knife, but just big enough for me to manipulate easily.

The Dragonfly actually has more "handle" if you choke up on the blade. It's longer by ~0.2".

Knives are aligned by the usable part of the handle (including the choil for the Dragonfly), as marked by the red line. Grid is 5 squares per inch.

Hello,

I agree 100% with what you said. The Dragonfly is one of the few small knives I like and don't mind carrying as a secondary blade. Sometimes I even carry it as my primary blade when I got to LA county. One of the things Spyderco does better then most companies is make small knives that work and feels like a big blade.

Have a good one,

Chris
