Obtaining a Chris Reeve knife can be a bit of a saga, can't it?

I've been looking at Chris Reeve knives for over a year now. I stumbled upon them when I misplaced my old camping knife (a Buck something or another) and so I needed a replacement fixed blade. Long story short, I hemmed and hawed for a few months, then decided to order a Mountaineer II. A few days later, the dealer called to let me know that the knife had been back ordered and that it would be something like 10 weeks for delivery.

So I canceled the order, got busy with other things, and sort of forgot about it all. I think I was trying to suppress the beast. Y'see, in the process of researching fixed blades, I'd become fascinated by Sebenzas. It might have had something to do with all the messages around here about what great knives sebbies are. So I blame all of you. ;)

Time went by, Christmas came and went, and camping season is approaching. The kids are asking when we're going to head out again. So I decided I'd better do something about that Mountaineer II because I REALLY don't like going into the woods without a fixed blade.

Went to New Graham Knives, found one (and I do mean ONE) in stock and so I ordered it. Got the UPS shipping notification. It was coming by ground, so 7 days for delivery. No problem. Kept an eye on things. Oh, look! It's here in California now.... It'll show up tomorrow....

Then I read the note about how the shipment was missing. The box was empty, so UPS threw it away.

Ummmm.... what?

Read: someone at UPS got themselves a brand new Mountaineer II.

New Graham called me up the next day to let me know what had happened. Not their fault that UPS **multiple expletives deleted**. I can't imagine a better test for an outfit's customer service department than this. I think NGK did great. They called, they were responsive, they wanted to know what I wanted to do. If I still wanted the knife, it would be 10 weeks for delivery.

*sigh*

I told them I had to think about it.

So I looked around and found a Mountaineer II at SRKnife. Called him up. Yep, he has one. So he's shipping it to me... US Postal this time.

Then I called New Graham to tell them to cancel the order completely. I felt bad. They felt bad. The sebbie demon was lurking (yes, I really DO blame you all). They had a small classic with micarta inlay in stock. So ... that's coming via US Postal service too.

Now I'm waiting to find out what else can go wrong. Two knives on the way from different dealers via US Postal. What do you think... will I finally get at least one of them?

By the way, the new sebbie, if it shows up, will be my EDC. I'm expecting it to last the rest of my life.

Two expensive knives in one day.... *Urp.* Fortunately, my wife doesn't see that particular credit card bill. :D

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't quite go as you hoped in the first place, but trust me.......,when they arrive you know that it was all worth it!!!
The only thing that could happen is that you're sorry for waiting so long to buy your first CRK!
Chris Reeve makes great knives, without exception!!!!:D

(Next time check the various forums too....,they show up often in the "for sale/trade" sections!!)

Hope you will soon be able to welcome your babies home!!!

I am sorry that the first order did not work out!! That so sucks!!! You will get them and LOVE them!! And they will both last your lifetime!! CONGRATS on the new knives!!!

I received my small classic with micarta from NGK yesterday :D
You will love it ;)

I generally prefer the plain titanium or engraved handles to the inlays, but the inlayed micarta is excellent. It is the perfect complement to the Sebenza as a work knife.

I got this one last week... It is my first sebie... Just want to share my happiness with you :D

It is (and I think it will be for a long time) my EDC #1 since I got it. This knife is ... just perfect and feels so strong :o

I don't have time for a lengthy posting right now, except to say that holy cow this is one heavy duty knife. Without question, if I'm out in the woods, this is the one piece of equipment that I want with me.

I wanted something that I knew I could reliably use to build emergency shelter/get firewood, etc. But the Mountaineer II, now that I've handled it, I think I could build an entire fort with the thing.

Can't wait to get it out in the woods and put it to work.

More thoughts later ....
