Will our HI forum continue?

As sad as I am to know that HI is closing, I hope Auntie finds peace and happiness long into her retirement. For us career lurkers and/or contributors, will this forum remain open for posting? It has been a pleasure reading countless threads over the years, and getting to "know" a handful of regulars.

We do not wish to close this forum, if that is allowed. We are just discontinuing the business of making and selling. We would still like this to be a home for our customers to learn and interact.

I'm willing to stick around. The HI work extended far beyond knives.

Or maybe it didn't. Bill often used to comment on wandering threads, "What does this have to do with khukuris? Everything!"

I will be happy to see this forum continue.
This place has been a part of my life for many years. I used to enjoy posting field pics and khukuri action. I'd like to see more of that.
I mean, you guys do use your khuks, right?😁

I think it will be a question for Spark. When Kershaw/Kai wanted to close up it's forum, it was shuttered and moved to the archives as the business no longer wanted to employ moderators to govern the space. Cold Steel, however, is still around even after being sold a few years ago. No real moderation staff has ever been put in place and that forum keeps chugging along.

I'm biased, but in my opinion, as long as someone wishes to greet the door and spin the yarns of those no longer walking the halls of the cantina, I wouldn't see what letting this place stick around would hurt. There is a wealth of knowledge that shouldn't be lost for what little resources as place like this takes up....just my opinion.

I hope Spark Spark will consider keeping it open. Though I'm no longer active in the sub-forum, I was for a long period during the early years and have many fond memories of the people and the blades.

I would hope we keep it open and perhaps evolve it back to the broader subject of ethnographic/historical knives; which was how it usually ran under Uncle Bill. The Bladeforums needs a home for those threads and the evolution of the khukuri can best be understood in the context of other related tools.

I agree. The HI kamis have been making knives from other cultures as well as khukuris, and this subforum has always had a broader scope than just khukuris even though those have been the main focus of HI. That is ample justification for keeping it available.

The reason it was that way under Uncle Bill was that there was no Cantina. We will keep it as it has been for last 20 years. The discussion of other ethnographic/historical blades, brands...etc should happen in the Cantina and the discussion of our brand in main forum, if they are posted there by the original poster and not duplicated to our forum. We do not wish to become a dumping ground for general discussion threads.

It'll stay open as long as you'd like
Thank You, Kevin! For allowing us this place to keep our information and memories alive.

I'll be checking in several times a day as I have for a long time. I'd miss this group. Hope we continue some good discussions. And I too thank Spark for his kind gesture.

I bought my first HI from Ebay many years ago before I knew about this place. Lurked for years before joining, and have checked almost every day since. It will be different without the opportunity to buy what eye candy Auntie presented and I imagine it will get ominously quiet, but I to am addicted to hitting the shortcut button to get here. I guess time will tell what the future holds.

I fear the ominously quiet will happen too. It's been pretty quiet for some time now. Everyone looks forward to the offerings. Hopefully we're both wrong. I was only wrong twice, I think once was in 1962 and once in 1969 but I'm pretty sure that I wasn't wrong that time.

I'm pretty sure you were wrong in 69.
I was....

I will definitely keep checking and helping to keep this place alive.
I first joined 16 years ago after lurking for who knows how long. I've gifted so many HI knives over the years. Probably more than I own right now. To think that there well be no more HI blades is sobering. Makes them seem even more special.
I believe it's time to do the handle repairs I've been putting off for years!
I've got some crazy Hawthorne, and pepperwood
and madrone to make handles.
I think we can all benefit from some repair threads.

I often enhance knife handles with a hemp wrap soaked in epoxy. Sometimes because the handles are too thin or have cracks or other problems. But I can never do that with HI knives because the handles are too good to mess with.
