I have in my possession a knife designed by Wilde Bill Cody.Although I know he worked for Buck Knives for thirty years, his history after leaving Buck is some what obscure.I've tried several searches on here and using the dreaded Google but I've been met with limited success.

Did Mr.Cody move on to producing his own knives? Does he have an active site where he displays his work?Any more information, our more informed members could provide, will be much appreciated.

Thanking members in advance.

You have to know how to search it. Try typing this into the small box in the upper right corner, 'Wilde Bill' . See what comes up. Then you can email him or leave him a visitors message. DM

Thanks,I've done that and received 265 hits.Unfortunately most of these hits only mention his name without an explanation about what he's currently doing. There were dozens of hits in the Sunday picture show but still not enough information about his current activity.

I"ll continue to search.

He still does some knife work I believe. Send forum member ItsTooEarly a private message. He can give you a bit of info on him.

Genius posing (in the tiny factory store in Post Falls, ID) with his art during the 25th BCCI event. It was too crowded to remove the sword from its display in order for him to hold during photo, unfortunately. Wild Bill walks the earth like a giant with talent that the rest of us can only imagine in our wildest of wild dreams (so he created the sword from hearsay, pictures and a brilliant mind of a champion). A better man. A finer gentleman I will never meet. Never. And I never use that word lightly. The original ceremonial Hoyt scimitar was stolen. And I ask that who has it now to bring it back into the light. This replica (copy is not the right word IMHO as there were no records of the original scimitar other than photos and memories) was finished at the last minute (literally the last minute) to cut the new factory opening ribbon. Some handle parts obtained from Home Depot that day. The blade was sharpened to cut the ribbon and then, almost immediately, dulled by Joe because some were swinging the large heavy blade wildly in the excited happy crowd (BTW, my guess is that nobody beyond Joe knows that it was dulled and I bet it was never re-sharpened, so keep it to yourself and when the next ribbon needs cutting I wonder if it will cut or bounce!). The stories make the cutlery seem to come alive don't they.

Thanks for the picture.

It's great to put a face the work that I purchased.I'm in complete agreement about his talent, since the Buck that I purchased is absolutely awesome.

He looks younger than I thought, given his 30 years with Buck Knives.

How about a Wild Bill picture show while we are at it? Here is a start.

Dolphin in a Wave cutout, Nickel Silver hardware and a green Dymondwood handle. WBC's initials stamped on the choil. The dolphin is fixed only by the tip of the dorsal and tail fins. The nose does not touch. Not sure but this knife appears to be a 923 Medium Skinner with a Vanguard handle.

Here is Wilde Bill working his magic on a knife during a presentation at the Pasadena Knife Show, California in 2010. After the show we had dinner with him. DM
