Will stone washing a blade remove surface rust?

I had plans to acid bathe and stone wash a Spyderco Tenacious and a Kershaw Skyline, but recently I've noticed that both of the blades have a bit of surface rust on them. Should I remove the rust myself before the acid bath and stone wash, or will the whole process remove the rust naturally?

The acid etch should remove any rust on the surface, but I would clean it first so you get a even acid etch on the blade. Unless you want it to be uneven?
