my first good quality EDC folding knife is retiring my benchmade red class ambush. mainly because it has developed some very serious blade play when closed i can touch both sides of the scales with the blade. and some play in the lock up. i also am not a big fan o serrations. before i put it back in the box and into the safe for its slumber im wondering if i can send it in to benchmade and have them fix the play. the knife has served me well for about a year. if they wont cover it then no big deal i will replace it with my spyderco endura 4 waved. but i'd just like it fixed up if possible. and yes i have tried tightening the screws.

thank you for the help!

If it's that bad, it may not be repairable, they would probably trash ita nd send you a Pika2 of some sort.

Pray tell what new edc is retiring the ambush?

I'd guess that one he mentioned would replace it ;)

thank for the info, i dont think i'll send it in because i dont want to risk it being trashed. it is now in its box in my safe. i'll keep it there for the sentimental value.

+1 on this. they will fix or repair it. that is what you buy when you purchase a benchmade. You can also tell them NOT to replace it but to try and fix it.

do you have any personal experience with this? if so, would you mind going into a bit of detail about your experience with benchmades customer service?

I know some guys who've dealt with BM's customer-service. It was mostly small things, such as broken omega-springs, etc. They all praised their swift and efficient customer-service. Havent dealt with them myself though.

I always made sure to insure it for a bit more than what it's worth, that way if it does wind up getting lost, you can get a new one.

The only BM knife you can't send them directly is an auto - unless you are a LEO or military user. While legal to sell to we civilians in Alabama, you break a Federal law crossing a state line in direct shipment to/from BM. I recently had to take my f-i-l's antique Ballisong, which wouldn't close all of the way, to a store on the other side of town - they returned it no charge (Still awaiting it's return from BM.). For more info re BM - or a forum on BM - try the BM site! They have always been fast with the requested screws, etc - all I have used of their warranty service previously.
