will the chive work without the spring?

hey there folks before anything i want to send out my deepest sympathies to all the american people. god bless.
anyway i want to get the ken onion chive but i have a question say if the spring was taken out (for fear that the authorities might classify it as an auto) would the chive still be able to act like the usual folder (just without the speed safe mechanism). thanks for the answers.

not sure. i think the spring keeps the blade from flopping out when in the closed position. Once you get a chive though you'll be addicted to flicking it open. I have a scallion and just flip and flip and flip all day. the action on it is so quick and fun. I saw Ken Onion at a knife show flicking it over and over just sitting there talking. by all means get one (they are scalpel sharp out of box too). then just get a small spyderco or crkt for carrying when you think you might get hastled by the law.

i play with it once... hey.. better dont go for it.. cos its double action knives... your good friend,the police, will invite u to his place for 24 hours.... if u take out the spring. then it become a manual haha...
