Have just been reading Gatekeepers thread on preffered carry and got to
wondering if the day may come that the Homefront Defense office will
require (or strongly recommend) that all U. S. citizens carry or keep a BOB
to guard against terrorist attacks?? While most folks don't think about this
we here at B.F. do. Will it take an "official" annoucment to cause the general
population to make up a BOB?

Brothers & Sisters of WTSHTF,
Tightwad,

We've been told all of our lives to be prepared:

"Save for a rainy day".
"Keep the home fires burning."
"A stitch in time..."
"Better safe than sorry."
"Come home with your shield, or on it."

Of course, the same careless people in their everyday lives will become the victims of their own lack of early initiatiative.

Providing a wide berth for these folk can become a cross-country adventure!

Common sense, (either by nature or experience), is paramount.

Government recommendation? Doubtful.

Reasonable? I concur.

I honestly can't imagine why a person wouldn't at least carry a "possibles" bag everywhere these days. Terrorism attacks or not, it's a prudent tactic. It's embarrassing, and sometimes deadly, to be "caught with your pants down". I am thankful that many years ago I got a wake-up call and have been in a state of preparedness ever since. The majority of us here at BF probably do take adequate precautions already.

Why should I be prepared? All I have to do is call 911 on my cell phone and Big Bro will come and take care of me. (extreme sarcasm!) This is a common attitude though.

The truly sad part is most people haven't even thought it through
that far!:(

The government generally doesn't seem to want people to depend on themselves. Rely on an Air Marshall to protect you in a place (because you can't even carry a set of dangerous tweezers to fight off a hijacker). Call the police or someone else for help and they might get there in time to help you. Generally, our laws seem to only get more limiting rather than expanding our independence.

Gee, kinda hate to admit that I am a newbie.... but what is a BOB? I am not familiar with that accronym.

Hi Rand,

Bug Out Bag, a bag, backpack, fanny pack, duffel bag, etc. in which one carries those things needed in case they need to Bug Out -- that is leave home, office, car, without warning.

Many people carry wilderness survival stuff in the bag, food, water, weapons, tools, ammo, first aide etc.

When I worked for FEMA our bug out bag, which we had to have with us at all times, was clothing and necessary items for 7-10 days (except food and water) and whatever we might want to have in case we would get the pager call saying to be on a plane in one hour or so to go to a disaster location.

Since we might be anywhere when we would get the pager call, we were to keep everything in the bag at all times and with us at all times.

Each person has in his BOB, what he thinks he may need if an emergency changes his life and he can't go home or to his destination as planned.
