I am wondering what this one is all about. There is no doubt that this is an original run SHBM(probably towards the end of the shbm run) that was modified at a later date probably in the 2002 time period and given new scales and brass tubes. However, it says BMLE #473 on it. This is obviously not an original run LE, even the nomenclature BMLE proves that as does the E-handle busse logo on the other side, yet it has been tagged as an LE of some kind. Regardless it is a beauty, just seeking knowledge on this one. Definitely want to hear the story on this one. Who owns this thing? love the color of the scales.

I don't recall any hand shaped snakeskin scales coming out of the shop until several years after snakeskin micarta was introduced. I'm guessing it was modified much later than 2002.

possibly modded after. Hard to say. The e-handle logo shows it to have been made during the E-handle production, which was 2001-2002 ish. But the scales could have been added much later. I have a massive SHBM that was made in 1999 and was refurbished and made satin by hand by jerry in 2001. It has the same ehandle logo on it. But it is still about 0.28-0.29" thick. I am betting this one is right at 0.25" which is what all of the late model SHBM's were due to exact machining process, much like the e-handles which were right at 0.25"

definitely an interesting piece to talk about

It could very well be the Original Camo from that time period.
Camo was way before Snakeskin by several years, my guess is it was sent back as a coated blade and turned Satin, at that time it was logo'ed.
I had a Lean Mean Street that was done that way, I gave it to (at the time) a 16 year old kid ;)
Hope he remembers me when he's super wealthy.

I concur. Hand shaped snake is only a few years old.

here is my behemoth(nearly 0.29" thick after being made satin):
The grind on this one is probably late 98. it was refurbished at the beginning of the E-handle run(2000 ish).

See the logo and the handles are typical SHBM of that time.

I don't think thats entirely accurate. Although it was more common in later made knives due to the left overs not being thick enough to machine in most cases. However there were examples I believe that were made in begining... The dragon fang, the chuckete has it to I believe,
And a couple others I think too.

Now its possible that knife has been sent back to shop on more than one occasion too.

All guesses cause its not mine:)

The finished blade itself is definitely from the 2002 time period. The E handle logo is proof of that. It is not a few years old, it is before the fussions ever came out. However, the handles may be another thing, but somehow I doubt that.

I agree. If owner asked for hand shaped they would have got em. The ergo logo is most telling. The snakeskin not so much.

Dennis, I have that knife now.
IIRC, it was described as a camo BMLE from early 2000 era. It was delivered to the owner at the blade show by Jerry and is not a modded knife.

That is what I figured. So the question is, is this possibly the last SHBM LE. I am sure there are no other LE's with the E-handle logo. If this was done by jerry as a true LE, then it may just be the last LE made. It would have been made well after the SHBM production run was done since the e-handle logo is on it. Which makes it strange.

Who knows if this is the last LE, it is quite different from my LE#350 and ofcourse, the numbering doesnt help. Skunks #500 has smooth bolts which probably came before the LE#350 with slotted bolts.

Well, the numbering scheme has nothing to do with the order that they were made and doubtful there was 500. If this one is indeed an LE then it proves that there was not 500 made. But only the man can verify why there is LE 473 on there. That part makes no sense on a blade that was definitely sold well after the SHBM run was done

I agree. If it is really the last SHBMLE, pretty cool.
