Hello Blade Forums I recently took the scales off my esee 6 and there was some light red rust with no pitting, I cleaned in with some wd40 and it looks as good as new but does this mean there is some internal damage to the steel? I’m probably overthinking as always but just thought I’d ask thanks.

No. One thing you could do to help try to stop the rust from reoccurring is to convert it to black oxide rather than red. Clean off any loose flaking rust then stick the knife (blade only, no scales) into boiling water for 15 minutes. Afterward give it a light scuff with some steel wool and rinse and dry it thoroughly. Apply a coat of wax or oil. Put handle/scales back on. Go about your business.

Rust starts kn the surface and works its way in. If you renoved any rust or rust color and see clean steel the a knife is fine. You may want to put a drop of grease on the knife and rub it in and out the handle back on.
