Will the "wave" open beer bottles?

I'm looking at the CQC series for my EDC, and I'm curious if the hook portion will effectively open a non-twist bottle cap. I don't have a "real" knife yet, and I'm looking for a soulmate.

The ability to open beer bottles with my EDC is my primary criterion. Damage to the knife's finish is unacceptable.

Any tips? Bottle openers, teeth, etc., don't count.

i suppose it might work. but the wave is rounded and may not be able to hook under the cap effectively.

damage to the finish would be unavoidable. metal on metal tends to leave scratch marks or gouges.

sure they will pop tops, a m-wave works better than a SOCFK (the waves bigger) but they all will do it.

& yes it will scuff them.

I think there are cheaper and better bottle openers, but in a pinch you could use it.

I would be careful about chipping the tip on the wave. It already does a job on my pants pockets. I imagine it would be worse if that tip were sharpened through a lucky chip.

As far as I'm concerned all Emerson production knives have got a black or silver keramic coating which would be damaged in that process. If you want an uncoated blade there are some Spydercos with the Emerson wave.

How about a swiss army knife? This may be more useful for your purpose.

Or, you guys could make your own "wave" as shown in this thread:

I made a wave on my 551 Griptilian, my CRKT M16-14, and my Spyderco Endura 4. They all worked out great, especially the Griptilian.

You can open a bottle of beer with your teeth, but don't. Use a bottle opener-- save the knife.

The primary purpose for your EDC "knife" is to open beer bottles? Why not just EDC a bottle opener?

Bottle openers don't count, huh?

Kershaw made a Talon (folder) model with something that looked like a wave several years ago. It was marketed as a bottle opener so I assume that a wave could be used as a bottle opener. I'd email Emerson CS and simply ask.

like i said the wave will open bottles, i dont see a need to em EKI lol........

Why not just use a ligher, table edge, spoon, fork, whatever is around? At that point you could use the handle of almost any knife in the world to open a beer bottle... Or the back end of a key... Or the corner of a cellphone... Or pretty much anything, ive never had a problem with opening a beer. If youre so worried about the finish of the knife just use something else.

Heavy----is that your blade? Mod. BBO#1. Blade Bottle Opener #1!!
