Will there be any more 0301s or 0200s this year?

I sure the heck hope so.

Lol I suppose I'll be an optimist with you then. I want to replace the 0302 I just sold with an 0301 and 0200, but I would like to wait since I've got a few this week already--I just didn't know if I needed to push the panic button and buy all the remaining inventory in the world.

I'd push the panic button...;)

Seriously though, ZT stock is tough these days. Small runs of 0200's and 0300's just finishing up. Pretty small compared to demand though.

alright, as soon as I see them both appear at a reputable dealer, I'll grab them both at once. The 030x at least, and probably the 0200s, are so unique they're worth it.

Do you have any new projects with KO coming up? I was so fiending for a new KO that I bought a Ripple this morning...

Thomas:

Why would KAI design and introduce so many new knives when you admit to having a hard time keeping up with demand of existing models?

Is this part of how you keep interest in knives, keeping them in low supply and back ordered?

Is it hard to ramp up production due to cyclical sales or just been a huge growth you cant keep up with?

I assume not a lot of available labor in OR maybe?

I don't think the numbers are kept arbitrarily low. It appears that the yields are "seasonal" and move in big batches that deplete over time.

I'd imagine ZT is to KAI as Lexus is to Toyota. The Camry (Leek, for example) moves a lot faster and produces more revenue than the LS460 (eg. ZT030x, 055x).

Makes sense for a company to focus on the more popular models and keep the higher-end offerings on smaller production schedules. Plus, there have been several threads that mention the lack of large quantities of premium steels on the market.

Good points however if I couldn't find a high end Lexus, I would go out and buy another brand, Audi, BMW, Jag, heck Hyundai. Having empty dealer shelves doesn't work in retail as high end buyers don't wait and have no loyalty. Cant find a ZT 302,, go buy a Spyderco which is in stock and they fall in love and never come back.

Scaring away customers with money in today's marketplace where all the market numbers were down today with report on lower then expected retail numbers isn't good either.

I will do a search on steel shortages, never read any posts on that subject. I didn't realize steel plants were overproduction capacity, based upon current steel indexes and unemployment in steel towns lately.

I didn't say this situation would last forever.

No, it's not intentional.

A bit of both. Scheduling factory floor time for two popular brands is challenging.

Labor is not too much of an issue.

well, just to put the matter to rest, I just bought an 0200 uncoated. now I just have to wait until tomorrow for the store to tell me they're actually out of stock.

Thanks Thomas for your answers!

As a manufacturer in another industry I was interested, as a guy planning on buying more of your new blades in 2011, I was real interested.

So no shortage of steel?

Time for manufacturing floor expansion!

Sure they do. They also have enough disposable income to actually buy both. :)

Fall in love...never come back...You just posted there was no brand loyalty with high end buyers?

Scaring away customers with money in today's marketplace
Perhaps a little over reacting?

So no shortage of steel?
Not so much. More factory capacity. We're working on it.

Time for manufacturing floor expansion!
Could use it.

Never would I dare to speak on Thomas's ZT, but I would assume also having new knives coming out they also need to get them in as many stores as possible. If that means letting the old line back up, so be it. But as ya know we also want the new stuff out. I cant wait to start spending my money!!

I believe he's joking for now, but as I recall, he has stated earlier that all ZT models were limited. To what quantities, only the great Thomas W knows.

For me, the panic button was pushed and an 0200 is on its way. And I've got an 0301, 2nd Ti Tyrade and a 2nd Ti Bump in the crosshairs for this weekend depending on how ebay goes.

Can't take it too lightly when an 0200 is at stake :D

I think I'll wait for now, though. Assuming that there are more coming.
